STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The Bucknell field hockey team led for 48 minutes of Friday afternoon's non-conference game at Wagner, but the Seahawks came storming back with four unanswered goals over the final 11 minutes of the game to win 4-2 at the Wagner Field Hockey Complex. The Bison moved to 1-4 with the loss, and Wagner improved to 2-2.
The Bison were in control much of the afternoon, but Wagner scored on all four of its shots in the fourth quarter to erase a 2-0 Bucknell lead. Bucknell led 14-10 in shots, but eight of Wagner's attempts were on target as they converted on 50 percent of their shots on goal.
Lily Neilson got the Bison on the board with an unassisted goal 11 minutes into the contest. The two teams went scoreless in the second and third quarters before sophomore Katie Lintz added to the Bison lead in the 49th minute with her first career goal. Freshman Reese Czajkowski assisted on the score, tallying her first career helper.
The 2-0 Bison lead lasted just 45 seconds before Wagner's Pilar Lorenzini cut the deficit in half. Floortje Leunisse then scored back-to-back goals over the next four minutes to give Wagner its first lead of the game with six minutes to play. The Bison transitioned from Sarah Althouse to Abby Zanelli between Wagner's second and third goals. Althouse finished her afternoon with three saves.
Wagner added one more score in the 58th minute. The Bison attempted three shots over the final 10 minutes, including one last penalty corner shot by Kira Leclercq with two minutes left, but they were unable to cash in. Leclercq led all players with five shots, and Neilson finished with four.
Bucknell returns to action Sunday, Sept. 15 at Columbia. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
