LEWISBURG, Pa.- Bucknell's field hockey Sarah Althouse and men's soccer Collin Sullivan led their respective teams to crucial victories last weekend and were awarded with being named Bison of the Week by the Bucknell Department of Athletics and Recreation on Monday. This marks both Althouse's and Sullivan's second time at reception. Althouse previously landed the award on 8/30 and Sullivan received his on 9/20.Â
Althouse directed Bucknell to a 2-0 weekend over Patriot League rival Colgate and fellow Keystone State school La Salle. Her defensive presence between the pipes allowed Bucknell to escape with a 2-1 shootout win over Colgate and blank La Salle 1-0 on Senior Day.Â
The senior goalkeeper collected 19 saves in the two games. Against Colgate, her 12 saves turned away a potent Raiders offense that fired 23 shots and generated 18 penalty corners. She followed up her grueling Friday with a seven-save performance against La Salle.Â
Her two victories moved her career total to 31, tying her for the school record with Maureen Breslin (1995-98) and Sonja Wettergreen (1999-02).
Collin Sullivan scored Bucknell's match-winning goal in a 2-0 shutout over second-place Lehigh to hand the Mountain Hawks their first loss in conference play.Â
Sullivan's second career goal came in just the ninth minute of action, heading home David Krumov's corner kick. After a goal 11 minutes later from Jack Lucas, the Bison held strong defensively for the remaining 70 minute to keep their third straight clean sheet.Â
Sullivan led Bucknell's three center backs, who all played 90 minutes in the match.Â
Bucknell field hockey resumes action this Friday at Lehigh and men's soccer hosts #19 Cornell tomorrow.Â
