"I'm proud of our response in game three with Colgate. They are a tough team and things didn't go our way, but I love that we put up a fight, and I'm proud of our offense for how they competed. Madison Roukey didn't have her best stuff in game one, so it was awesome to see her make adjustments. She set the pace."
"As for the 50th win, I'm just grateful for this program and all the players and assistant coaches that helped me get to where we are now. I credit these seniors so much, they were part of every single one and they have believed in this culture the entire way."
Game One Recap
The beginning showed promise as Bucknell led 1-0 after the first inning. Haley Speicher walked and MaKenzie Hilling singled up the middle. A fielder's choice advanced Speicher to third base. Brooke Popella hit a deep sacrifice fly to score the speedy sophomore.
Savannah Jones started in the circle and tossed two scoreless innings. Sarah Zimmerman made a great running catch in the second frame.
Jones ran into trouble in Colgate's third frame. Romero's single and a sacrifice bunt started the action. A walk followed, and Herbst doubled into center field for two RBIs. A strikeout was the second out, but two singles happened to make it 4-1. Hunter Vestal entered the circle and commenced her outing with two walks to load the bases. Romero smashed a double to clear the bases and make it 7-1.ZIMMIE BATTLES THE WIND AND MAKES THE CATCH! The Bison added a run in the fifth inning. Sarah Zimmerman and Speicher singled to start the frame. A fly out and Smith's single loaded the bases. Popella hit into a fielder's choice to score Zimmerman. Jones struck out looking to end the inning.
Bucknell tallied a run in the next inning. Bella Radican, as part of a three-hit game, singled. A fielder's choice and a Zimmerman single followed. Speicher walked to load the bases. Hilling worked the pitcher and walked to score a run. The Orange & Blue left the bases loaded as Smith grounded out.
Colgate cashed in an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Three straight singles started the inning. A fielder's choice erased the lead runner at home. The next batter popped out. However, Dougherty obtained a bases-loaded walk for the 8-3 advantage.
The Bison died hard. Jones singled, and with two outs, Radican reached on an error. Gardon singled to load the bases. Zimmerman continued her hot streak with a two-run single. The tying run was at the plate. Speicher's grounder was corralled, and Colgate held on for the 8-5 win.
Game Two Recap
The Bison used a big inning to win the game. Bucknell did not waste time scoring eight runs in the first inning using a combination of hitting and wild pitching. The inning started with four straight singles as Speicher, Hilling, Smith, and Popella all hit safety. Popella's hit scored the first run. Jones struck out looking. A pitch hit Angelina Seropian to score the second run. Radican expertly worked the pitcher for a seven-pitch walk. Zimmerman followed with a four-pitch free pass. The 5-0 lead provoked a pitching change. The change mattered not. Speicher singled and the first baseman couldn't collect the throw, allowing two more Bison to score. Bucknell led 8-0.
Madison Roukey started in the circle for the Bison and cruised for the first four innings, only allowing two Colgate hits.
The Bison added another run in the third inning. Two grounders started the inning and Hilling singled to left field. Two infield singles followed to fill the bases. Jones walked in a run for the 9-0 advantage.
Colgate scored its sole tally in the fifth inning. A leadoff triple by Livesay was followed by a Dougherty single to right field. Roukey stabilized and induced three outs to invoke the run rule. Bucknell had broken its six-game losing streak.
