Women's Water Polo Prepares For Back-to-Back Days of Play

AZUSA, Calif. - The Bucknell women's water polo team concludes its California leg with the last two matches of their week-long trip. On Thursday, the Bison will compete against Azusa Pacific, followed by a matchup against Concordia on Friday. Both of these teams are members of the Gold Coast Conference.

Bucknell competes against Azusa Pacific for the first time since 2019. The Bison ultimately fell to the Cougars 11-10. The last win Bucknell secured was a 14-10 win in 2012 when the two teams competed for the first time.
Following a balanced 2-2 first period, the Cougars surged ahead in the match, netting six goals to Bucknell's two, establishing an 8-4 lead by halftime, punctuated by three consecutive scores to close the half.
Nevertheless, the Bison mounted a formidable comeback in the second half. Nina Benson initiated the scoring with a goal early in the period, followed by Kali Hyham and Ally Furano finding the net, narrowing the Cougar lead to 8-7 with 4:43 remaining in the third.
The Cougars countered by scoring a goal with slightly more than four minutes left in the third period, reclaiming their two-goal lead as they headed into the fourth quarter.
Azusa Pacific extended their lead by scoring another goal just 30 seconds into the fourth quarter, followed by Sarah Mooney finding the back of the net with 5:24 left on the clock.
The Concordia Golden Eagles and the Bucknell Bison will compete for the first time this week.
