Women's Water Polo Drops First Game at Princeton Invitational

PRINCETON, N.J. - Bucknell women's water polo fell 14-10 against VIllanova in its first contest of the Princeton Invitational on Friday evening. The team traveled to Princeton, N.J., today to play its first of three play days this weekend.

Freshman goalie Tamara Torkos had eight saves against the Wildcats. Both teams came out ready to play. The score was tied at 3-3 at the end of the first quarter. Junior attacker Boati Motau made her 2024 debut with the team after competing with the South African National Team, scoring one for the Bison. Senior Isabelle Monaghan recorded a shooting percentage of 57%, draining four of her seven shots for Bucknell.Â
Sophomore Bella Schraa kicked off the second quarter by finding the back of the net to earn the Bison their first lead of the game and her first of two goals. The Wildcats answered with a 3-0 run to regain the lead by two. Malli Challa netted her first goal of the game to close the gap to just one goal.

Sophomore center defender Ella Mattocks was a force to be reckoned with, earning herself a hat trick in the second quarter, going on to score five goals for the Wildcats, who finished the game on a 9-2 run.

Bucknell also saw goals from Caitlin Stott and Sidney Finkler.
