About the Bison

Bucknell heads to Rehoboth Beach for its second event of the fall season. The Bison are one of 14 teams teeing it up Monday and Tuesday at Delaware State's second annual tournament at Kings Creek.
The Bison are coming off a record-setting performance in their home tournament last weekend, and for the second straight tournament, they will send out a young roster comprised of three freshmen, a sophomore, and a senior.
Senior Cristina Canales is the veteran of the group, and she will be joined by sophomore Paige Richter and newcomers Sofia Nogalo, Lila Smith, and Katherine Vice.
The Bison finished second to Boston University at the Bucknell Invitational last weekend. Bucknell set 18- (292), 36- (591), and 54-hole (896) school records. It was the first sub-900 tournament in team history, and the Bison finished ahead of Patriot League rivals Navy, Lehigh, and Holy Cross. They will see Lehigh again this week in Delaware.
The round of the weekend was Smith's second-round 68, which was also a new school record. Her 223 total (77-68-78) put her alone in sixth place.
Nogalo was the low Bison for the week thanks to bookend 72s. Her 221 total was good for a T-3rd finish. Another first-year player, Nicole Yun, placed T-13th with rounds of 71-78-79.
Richter was the team's top performer last season as a freshman. Her 75.7 spring average and 76.2 mark for the full 2022-23 campaign were team bests. Last spring, she finished third at the SMSU Spring Classic in Arizona, fourth at the Navy Spring Invitational, and T-7th at her first Patriot League Championship. Eleven of her 12 spring rounds were in the 70s, including three 72s.
Richter turned in a fifth-place finish at the Pennsylvania Women's Amateur Championship last month. Her 5-over total of 227 on the par-74 course was six shots behind the champion, Rylie Heflin of Duke.

The Hornet Classic

The Bison will be playing at Kings Creek for the first time, although they have played at nearby Rehoboth Beach Country Club on several occasions at Delaware's home tournament.
Sacred Heart won last year's inaugural event with a 54-hole total of 886 (288-300-298). Howard was second, six shots back.
Delaware State's Anna Ferreyra-Heit was the 2022 medalist after winning a four-person playoff. The quartet finished at 6-over 219.

Next Up

The Bison return to action on Sept. 23-24 at Youngstown State's Roseann Schwartz Invitational at Mill Creek GC North.
Bucknell will celebrate its 25th anniversary with a special event on Oct. 13-14. On Friday, Oct. 13, there will be a reception and meet-and-greet with the current team from 7-9 p.m. at the Bachman Golf Center. The next day, guests may take part in a round of golf at the Bucknell Golf Club, starting with a 9 a.m. shotgun. Following the golf tournament, there will be a luncheon at the clubhouse, where the achievements of the Bison women's golf program will be celebrated.
This is also the 10-year anniversary of the team's 2014 Patriot League championship.
