LEWISBURG, Pa. – Sophomore women's golfer Sophia Bardunias was named the Bison of the Week after an individual championship to lead Bucknell to its fourth team championship of the 2025-26 season at the NKU Spring Fling at the Sandridge Country Club in Vero Beach, Florida this past weekend.
Bardunias won the tournament by two strokes at seven-over par, just ahead of teammate Lila Smith in second place. She fired a 223 (75-76-72) and was even-par in the final round to secure her victory. Of that +7, six shots came on a pair of triple bogeys at the par-5 fourth hole; she played the other 52 holes in 1-over.
Sophia Bardunias shot a three-over 75 and sat in third after the first round. The sophomore got into some trouble with a double and a triple bogey, but bounced back with birdies on holes six and seven for a three-over finish on the front. She then shot even on the back, birdieing the 16th hole.
In round two, Bardunias rebounded from an outbound 41 to shoot a 1-under 35 on the back, including three birdies in her final six holes.
On Sunday, Bardunias birdied the par-5 second hole before running into trouble on No. 4. But she bounced back nicely, posting three birdies and only one bogey over her final 14 holes. After the bogey at 10, she birdied 12 and 14 to get back to even on the day.
The sophomore earned her first collegiate win of her career after an outstanding freshman season where she was named First All-Patriot League. She tied for first at the Prospect Bay Intercollegiate last season, but lost out on a match of cards.
This is here second Bison of the Week honor this season, and she has already collected two Patriot League Golfer of the Week Awards.
Bardunias, Lila Smith, Nicole Yun and Joelle Johnson al finished in the top-10 at the NKU Spring Fling, and Katherine Vice placed 11th. Bucknell won the team championship by 10 strokes over St. John's, and its 54-hole total of 911 is the third-best team round that was not played at the Bucknell Golf Course.
Coming into the 2025-26 campaign, the Bucknell women's golf team had won 10 tournaments in its 27-year history. The Bison won three of their five tournaments in the fall – the Bucknell Invitational, the Battle at the Creek, and the Red Flash Invitational – and also finished second at the Navy Fall Invitational.
Bucknell continues its historic season at the Bermuda Triangle Collegiate hosted by Lehigh at the Port Royal Golf Course in Southampton, Bermuda from March 30-31.
