Johnson and Bison Crowned Champions at Bucknell Fall Invitational

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell women's golf team won the Bucknell Fall Invitational for the second straight year, and Joelle Johnson won her first individual championship at the par-70 Bucknell Golf Club on Sunday afternoon.

Bucknell continued to set new records over the three-day tournament, including a new 18-hole record of 281 in the second round and a 54-hole record of 860. The Bison ended their tournament with a 285, which marks its second-lowest 18-hole score in program history. Bucknell's 18-hole record set yesterday is the lowest score, but not the lowest score in relation to par for a single round.

After two rounds at even-par to start the tournament, Johnson improved on day three to finish with a 68 (-2) and finish 2-under-par for the tournament. Columbia was one stroke behind the Bison as Johnson teed off on the par-4 18th hole. The sophomore parred the hole to hold off a late Columbia push toward the top of the leader board.

Johnson sank three birdies to go 3-under-par after 11 holes, but a double bogey on the 12th put her back to 1-under-par. She answered with a birdie on the par-3 13th hole, and parred out the remaining five holes to secure her championship. Johnson was a medalist at the Bucknell Invitational in 2025 but fell to teammate Katherine Vice after two playoff holes. This was Johnson's third career top-two finish.

The Bison had four players in the top-11 among the individual field. Sophia Bardunias tied for third, Nicole Yun tied for fifth, and Mattea Issa tied for 11th.

Bardunias carded a 71 for the second straight round to finish 4-over-par for the tournament. She made two birdies on an even front nine, and parred her final seven holes.

Yun also fired a second straight round of 71 (+1) and finished at 8-over-par. The senior was 3-under-par through her first six holes before going 4-over-par on the next four holes. Yun responded well and was even-par over her final nine holes.

Issa finished at 10-over-par for the tournament, and the freshman carded a 75 (+5) in her final round. She was even-par over through her first 15 holes, but made two double bogeys and a bogey to end the round. Fellow freshman Rayne Ripperger carded a 79 (+9) in her final round to finish in 44th place.

Bucknell's B team turned in a 311 to finish their round. The Bison would have finished sixth among the field of 14 teams. The team carded a 910 over the three rounds.

Katherine Vice and Mannat Virk both tied for 24th place at 17-over-par. Vice carded a 76 (+6) with two birdies and made one birdie with a final round of 79 (+9).

Lila Smith was right behind at 18-over-par in 28th place. The senior made birdie on the 13th and was 1-over-par on the back nine holes. Darcy Wright finished in a tie for 37th, shooting a 78 (+8) to end her tournament. Caroline Zeiger tied for 44th with a 79 (+9) and individual Katrina von Behren carded an 83 (+13).

Bucknell is back in action for the Golf Galaxy Collegiate hosted by Duquesne on September 28-29.
