Bison Baseball Falls to Western Michigan, 9-5

The Bison fell to 2-8 in a grueling early season road schedule, and now they can look forward to a run of home games starting with Wednesday's Depew Field opener against Marist.
Bucknell took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth, with Patriot League on-base percentage leader Jacob Corson igniting the rally with a leadoff walk. He moved to second on a bunt by Billy Kender and then scored on an RBI single by Keys. After Tyler Dunn was hit by a pitch, Jacob Terwilliger singled home Keys for a 2-0 lead.
Bison starter Tyler O'Neill breezed through the first four innings, allowing only one hit, but Western Michigan took the lead with a four-run fifth. Will Morrison tied it with a two-run double, and he scored the go-ahead run on Gavin Doyle's single.
The Broncos added two more in the sixth on another RBI knock from Morrison and a balk with a runner on third. Down 6-2, the Bison loaded the bases with one out in the bottom half, but WMU reliever Joe Shapiro induced a 6-4-3 double play to end the threat.
Western Michigan tacked on three in the eighth to go up 9-2 before Bucknell added three late runs. The Bison scored two in the eighth on a Lyons RBI ground out followed by an error. Henry Novicki's pinch-hit single brought home Kender in the ninth to make the final 9-5.
Bucknell is scheduled to play four home games next week, starting with Marist on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. Rhode Island will come to Depew Field for a three-game series on Saturday and Sunday.
