Men’s Tennis Defeats Howard in D.C., 4-1

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Bucknell men's tennis team won its third straight match, 4-1 over Howard on Saturday afternoon at the Washington Tennis & Education Foundation East Capitol Campus.
Senior Michael Owen had a hand in two dominant wins. He teamed with Nick Mueller for a 6-1 verdict at No. 3 doubles that helped Bucknell claim the doubles point for the fourth straight dual, and he came back to post a 6-1, 6-0 win over Hassimiyou Dieng at No. 3 singles.
Harrison Gold and Brendan McDonald improved to 5-0 at No. 1 doubles this spring with a 6-3 win over Justin Cadeau and Marcel Dawson. Including the fall tournament season, the freshman McDonald is now 14-3 in doubles with four different partners, while Gold is now 10-3.
Amar Tahirovic at No. 2 singles and Tim Zelikovsky at No. 4 joined Owen as singles winners. Tahirovic was a 6-1, 6-0 winner over Dawson, and Zelikovsky topped Danial Dunac 6-4, 6-3.
Howard's lone point came from Cadeau, who defeated Gold at No. 1 singles. The fifth and sixth singles matches were not contested.
Bucknell is back in action against another Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference opponent on Sunday, hosting Coppin State at noon at the Central PA Tennis Center in South Williamsport.
