Bucknell at a Glance
- The Bison are back on the courts for the first time in two weeks, after posting some strong results at the Villanova Invitational. That tournament utilized a two-man mini-dual format, and Bucknell's three tandems combined for a 6-4 record in the mini-groups and a 17-9 individual match record. In all three pairings, head coach Jason Cohen teamed a freshman with a senior or junior.
- Nick Mueller and Brendan McDonald won three straight competitions and would have faced a Lehigh team in the Blue Draw final, but the tournament was cut short due to rain. Mueller and McDonald swept all three matches from Colgate and Saint Joseph's, and they took two of the three to defeat another Lehigh pairing in the semifinals.
- Tim Zelikovsky and Amar Tahirovic won two of their three competitions in the Blue Draw, beating Lehigh and Lafayette. Michael Owen and Gui Padilha defeated a Lafayette tandem in the White Draw. Â
- The Bison made their debut under new head coach Cohen at the Bucknell Invitational the previous weekend.
- Two freshmen highlighted Bucknell's singles play in the home event. McDonald won four straight matches in straight sets to claim the B Singles title, and Tahirovic lost a three-setter in the A Singles final.
- McDonald was a two-time winner, as he also teamed with Mueller to claim the A Doubles title.
- Harrison Gold, Bucknell's No. 1 player and a First Team All-Patriot League selection last season, will be in action for the first time in 2022-23 after missing the first two tournaments with an injury. He will be joined at Binghamton by McDonald, Owen, Padilha, and Ink Chen.
- In his first year at Bucknell after transferring from UNC Wilmington, Gold played No. 1 singles and doubles last spring. He went 5-0 in doubles and 5-1 in singles against Patriot League competition.
- Zelikovsky led the team with a 22-7 overall singles record last season. He went 16-4 in dual matches, including 15 straight wins to close the campaign.
- Bucknell welcomed five freshmen who comprise a highly acclaimed recruiting class. The group was ranked 27th among all Division I programs and sixth among Mid-Major programs by tennisrecruiting.net.
- Bucknell will be back on the courts Oct. 7-9 at the River City Open, hosted by Richmond.
