CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Bucknell battled resiliently on the road against the 19th-ranked Crimson, but the home team overturned a 4-2 deficit at the half into a 7-5 win, limiting Bucknell to just the one goal in the second half in taking the season series over the Bison.
Much like the first matchup in the series in Lewisburg this season that went to overtime, the game was decided by narrow margins. Bucknell started the brighter of the two teams, scoring three goals in the first period while limiting the Crimson to just one.
Harvard opened the scoring shortly after the opening whistle, but the Bison responded with a 3-0 run to end the period. Megan LaCroix started the run with a quick response on an assist from Chloe Smith, before Paige Furano found the back of the cage from a pass by Bella Moynihan.
Isabelle Monaghan then capped off the run off another pass from Smith, which was set up after Monaghan drew an exclusion for a powerplay opportunity as Bucknell took a 3-1 lead after one.
A defensive second quarter saw each team score one goal apiece. Erin Kim of the Crimson pulled Harvard within one, 3-2, before LaCroix was on hand again on a pass from goalkeeper Annika Lampen to give Bucknell a two-goal advantage heading into the half, 4-2.
The Crimson used a 3-0 run of its own to start the third quarter, taking a 5-4 lead on three unanswered goals. However, Caroline Oates scored just before the third quarter horn on an assist from Boati Motau to tie the game at five with eight minutes to play.
Harvard kept the Bison off the board in the fourth, scoring two goals in the final eight minutes in taking another close win over the Bison. Bucknell had several chances, including hitting the post late, but couldn't find the back of the cage in falling to 9-14 this season.
Bucknell converted just the one chance on the powerplay out of seven opportunities, and also outshot the Crimson 34-27 in the defeat. Lampen made seven saves in the defeat for Bucknell.
