Bucknell Women's Water Polo Set for First-Round Matchup Against Brown

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell University women's water polo team is set to host Brown in its first-round matchup of the CWPA Tournament on Friday at 4 p.m. at Kinney Natatorium.

The contest is the third of the opening day for the CWPA Tournament.
First-round schedule - Friday, April 22
1 p.m - .No. 2 Harvard (21-6, 9-3 CWPA) vs. No. 7 Mount St. Mary's (8-23, 1-11 CWPA)
2:30 p.m. - No. 3 Princeton (19-9, 8-4 CWPA) vs. No. 6 Saint Francis (Pa.) (9-19, 2-9 CWPA)
4 p.m. - No. 4 Brown (24-13, 7-5 CWPA) vs. No. 5 Bucknell (9-15, 3-9 CWPA)
- Bucknell has posted its best two CWPA finishes in back-to-back seasons, earning a third-place berth in 2019, before reaching the championship game in 2021. The wins snapped a three-game losing streak by the Bison in first-round contests.
- The Bison last hosted the CWPA Championship in 2018, going 3-1 after falling in a tightly-contested game to 14th-ranked Indiana in the opening fixture, 5-4.
- Bucknell has played Brown twice this season, falling in two close contests to the Bears.
- In the first matchup in Lewisburg, Larissa Hodzic netted a hat trick, but the Bison fell 12-7. It was a much closer matchup in Providence in Bucknell's last outing, with the Bison falling 8-6. Isabelle Monaghan scored a brace along with Emma Molaski, while Paige Furano and Boati Motau also scored. The Bison led 6-5 in the fourth over Brown on Motau's goal, but the Bears scored three unanswered goals to end the game and take the two-goal victory.
- Bucknell last faced Brown in the CWPA Championship in Lewisburg in 2018, with the Bison taking a 9-4 win to close the tournament. Bucknell ended the tournament by out scoring its final three opponents 35-13 to secure fifth place.
- Bucknell defeated Saint Francis in its opening round game last season in the CWPA Championship, 8-5, before falling in the championship tilt to the host Wolverines 12-5. Furano scored twice for the Bison in that game, while Bella Moynihan added two assists and three steals. Sam Gove, who started Bucknell's last game against Brown, made five saves in the cage in the victory.
- Furano continues to lead the team with 40 goals on the season, with Monaghan second on the team with 30 goals. Hodzic has put together a solid year for the Orange and Blue, and will enter Friday's contest with 27 goals on the season. Chloe Smith (23) has also put together over 20 goals this season for the Bison.
- The Wolverines are the top seed once more in this year's edition, and will have a first-round bye before facing the winner of the Bucknell-Brown matchup.
- The Bison finished the regular season with a 3-4 record at Kinney Natatorium, claiming wins over La Salle, St. Francis Brooklyn, and Mount St. Mary's
