Bucknell (10-12) improves to 7-4 in home games this season, concluding its ten-game home stand on a winning note.
It was a quick start for the Bison, as Kendall Pierson used a sac fly to score Kyle Lyons before heads up baserunning by Anthony Sherwin on a stolen base attempt by Grant Voytovich added Bucknell's second run. Brendan Lowery then added Bucknell's third, scoring Voytovich from second after his hit to second base trickled into the outfield after an error by the Mount.
The Mount got on the board on a sac fly in the second, before a big third inning from the Mountaineers seemingly blew the game open. The visitors scored seven times in the frame, getting hits in each of their first three batters en route to five overall hits and two walks in the frame to take an 8-3 lead.
Bucknell pulled three runs back in the third, as the first five batters reached base. Jacob Corson doubled home Pierson, while Tyler Dunn added an RBI single. Kelly then grounded out to third to score Brendan Lowery for Bucknell's third run.
The Bison then added three more runs in the fifth to regain the lead, as four straight hits to open the inning put the Bison in a good spot. Logan Kellerman and Kelly started the inning with a single and a double, respectively, before Lyons belted a single to left center to plate the two aforementioned Bison. The Bison then scored one more run on a double play ball from third to put the home team ahead, 9-8.
The Mount tied the game in the seventh at nine, also on a double play. The inning could have been worse for the Bison, but relief pitcher Bryce Reimer managed to get a foul out with two outs on an athletic catch by Kelly to keep the game scoreless.
The game, like the last two meetings between the two schools, seemed destined to go extra innings until Corson once again provided a spark to start the eighth with a leadoff double. Sinins then stepped in and delivered a clutch triple to right center for his first career hit after coming in as a pinch hitter to give Bucknell a 10-9 lead. One batter later, Kelly added his second double of the day to score Sinins and give Bucknell a two-run cushion.
Andrew Funovits, like Saturday's game against Army, sealed the deal for his second straight save in retiring the side in order.
Bucknell finished with 14 hits overall, with six players notching at least two hits in the game. Kelly's two doubles and two RBIs were both season bests, while Reimer earned his first win of the year in pitching four innings and allowing just three hits. The five strikeouts for the junior were a new career best.
Bucknell will hit the road for the first time since March 16 when it travels to Lafayette and Lehigh this weekend for doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday.
