- Bucknell returns to action with a quick turnaround, having wrapped up its Patriot League-opening series against Navy on Sunday afternoon.
- Bucknell went 3-1 against the Mids, securing a regular season series sweep against Navy with one more game to go in Annapolis on April 20.
- Bucknell also went 3-2 against Navy last season, the first time Bucknell has won the season series against the Mids in back-to-back years since 2013-2014. Bucknell won ten of the 11 matchups during that time, including two wins in the Patriot League semifinal series in Bucknell's Patriot League Championship-winning 2014 season.
- Bucknell was led on the offensive end in the Navy series by its top two hitters in Anthony Sherwin and Chris Cannizzaro, who combined to go 22-for-34 at the plate with 13 RBIs and 11 runs scored between them.
- Sherwin went 12-for-18 at the plate with five runs scored, a triple, two doubles, and five RBIs over the weekend, posting a sensational .684 on-base percentage during that time span. Sherwin's four hits in the series opener were a career high, and he leads the teams with six multiple-hit games.
- Cannizzaro went 10-for-16 at the dish with six runs scored, two doubles, and eight RBIs, also adding his second home run of the season over the left field fence in the second game of the series.
- The duo picked up where they left off from last season against Navy, as both hit over .400 in five games against the Mids, Sherwin posted seven hits, five RBIs, and four doubles. Cannizzaro scored five runs, posted nine hits, and added five RBIs in five meetings in 2021.
- Kendall Pierson also posted a big weekend, collecting three RBIs in the win over the Mids in game three. Pierson belted the second triple of his career for two RBis in the fifth, before singling home Grant Voytovich for his other RBI in the sixth inning. The senior hit .429 (6-for-14), adding four runs scored.
- Kyle Lyons has had a solid run of form for the Bison, hitting .450 in his last six games. The junior has picked up nine hits and five RBis over that time span, including a two-RBI double in Wednesday's game against Mount St. Mary's while adding three hits.
- On the mound, the Bison got a big boost from Will Greer in game one, as the junior threw eight scoreless innings while allowing six hits and striking out four. The outing for Greer was his longest of the season and the second-longest of his career.
- Greer's ERA of 2.88 ranks second in the Patriot League behind Luke Rettig of Lehigh, and he also ranks first in the Patriot League at 34.1 IP by over six innings. Greer has managed to go at least six innings in four of his five appearances this season.
- Also earning wins on the mound over the weekend were Austin Odell (2-2) and Ben Magovern (1-2). Odell threw a complete-game shutout against Navy in game three, going a career-best seven innings and striking out four batters. Magovern followed up Odell's performance with five shutout innings in game two before the contest was suspended by rain. Tyler O'Neill finished the job for Magovern when play resumed on Sunday, not allowing a baserunner in his best outing of his career. The freshman has not allowed a hit in his past two relief outings.
- Another bright spot from the Bison pitching staff was Renn Lints, who helped keep Bucknell in the series finale by escaping a bases-loaded, two-out jam. The senior threw a career-best 5.1 innings in Bucknell's defeat, allowing just five hits and one run. Bryce Reimer finished the game for the Bison, not allowing a hit after a solo home run by the Mids in his first batter over the final three innings.
- In its most recent meeting at Saint Joseph's in 2021, a 5-4 win for the Hawks. Pierson hit a two-run home run in that game, while Cannizzaro managed three hits in that game.
- Bucknell last faced Saint Joseph's on March 20, 2019 in Lewisburg, a 5-4 win for the Hawks. No current Bison appeared in that game. The two teams also met earlier that year in Port Charlotte, Florida, a 3-2 SJU win in which Cannizzaro made an appearance for the Bison in left field. Bucknell is 4-8 in the all-time series against the Hawks.
- The Bison took three of four against Army at home last season, and dropped all four games to the Crusaders on the road in Worcester, the latter two by one run.
- Bucknell will end its home stand next Tuesday with a rematch against The Mount at Depew Field at 3:30 p.m.
