LEWISBURG, Pa. – Lily Neilson scored with under five minutes remaining in Sunday's game against Lock Haven to lift the Bucknell field hockey team to a 3-2 win at Graham Field. Bucknell never trailed in the contest, but the victory required a late score after the Bald Eagles tied the game at 1-1 in the 20th minute and 2-2 in the 53rd.
While Bucknell held the final advantage in goals, it was Lock Haven that led 13-8 in shots and 10-7 in penalty corners. The Bison scored twice on their only shots of the first half, carrying a 2-1 lead into the locker rooms despite Lock Haven's seven shots and seven penalty corners.
Neilson also opened the scoring with a goal three minutes into the second quarter, giving her three goals this weekend and 13 on the season. Kayla Kisthardt found the back of the cage just before halftime for Bucknell's other goal. She, along with Mackenzie Kile, Kira Leclercq, Isabella Pavlides and Nicky Punt added assists as well.
Leclercq's assist was her second of the weekend, and Kile's was the 30th of her career.
The Bison went with freshman goalkeeper Nora Frederick, who finished with four saves.
Following a scoreless first quarter, Bucknell made good on its first penalty corner attempt 2:56 into the second as Pavlides inserted, Kile stopped the ball and Neilson fired a backhand shot from the top of the circle through traffic and into the cage.
The Bald Eagles tied the game less than two minutes later, scoring on their second consecutive penalty corner.
The Bison went with the same setup on a penalty corner with 3:40 remaining in the second quarter, but this time Leclercq took the shot and Kisthardt was there to tip it in to give Bucknell a 2-1 lead heading into halftime.
Lock Haven continued to have the upper hand offensively in the third quarter and attempted all three shots, but the 2-1 Bucknell advantage remained into the waning minutes of the fourth. The Bald Eagles were awarded a penalty stroke with 7:01 to play, and Frederick was unable to make the stop and preserve the lead.
With the threat of overtime looming knotted up at 2-2, the Bison ramped up the pressure and saw a 6-3 advantage in shots and were granted five of six penalty corners in the fourth. Neilson scored on a corner with 4:41 left, shooting through traffic to give Bucknell its first win since Oct. 1. 4th | Bucknell 3, Lock Haven 2

Bucknell has already clinched a berth in the Patriot League tournament for a 15th consecutive season and has just one regular season game remaining on Sunday, Oct. 30. Next weekend's home game against Boston U. carries postseason seeding implications.
