
Bucknell Volleyball Tops Holy Cross 3-1 on the Road

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Bucknell volleyball team won three straight sets after falling behind 1-0 to defeat Holy Cross on Saturday. The win gives Bucknell (5-6, 1-1 PL) its first Patriot League win of the season. Sophomore Catherine Jamison recorded a match-high and career-best 19 kills with an outstanding .429 hitting percentage as well as three block assists. Fellow sophomore Allie Lopez added six block assists, and rookie Jordan Hardy finished with 19 digs for a third time this season.
As a unit, the Bison tallied 18 block assists and limited the Crusaders to a .062 hitting percentage.
The Bison were slow out of the gates and allowed the Crusaders to post a match-high .308 hitting percentage on the way to a 25-16 win in the first set. The set included a 6-0 Crusader run that put Bucknell behind 17-11. Holy Cross also ended the frame on an 8-1 run.
Bucknell rebounded and Holy Cross committed 12 attack errors in the second set, allowing the Bison to win 25-20 and even the match at 1-1. Bucknell also posted five of its blocks in the second. Bucknell scored the final three points in the set for the win following a timeout from head coach Tyler Hagstrom.
Bucknell won the third set by the same score after scoring five of the first six points. Another 5-1 run in the middle of the set, that included three points from Jen Sivak, helped the Bison grab a 2-1 advantage in the match.
The Bison were their strongest in the fourth, posting a .278 hitting percentage and winning by a 10-point margin at 25-15. The Crusaders strung together back-to-back points just three times and saw just one run of three consecutive points.
Libby Nieporte finished second on the Bison roster with nine kills and seven digs. Lopez added seven kills to her six block assists, and Sivak recorded six kills with a .250 hitting percentage as well as three block assists.
Up next, Bucknell plays its home opener against Lafayette on Friday, Sept. 24 and will be looking to make it two in a row against Patriot League opponents. Friday's match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
