
Volleyball Falls to Lafayette at Home in Friday Patriot League Match

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell volleyball team fell 3-0 to Patriot League foe Lafayette during its home opener in Davis Gym Friday evening. Junior Lisa Zoch and sophomore Catherine Jamison both finished with double-digit kills, but it wasn't enough as the Leopards hit .339 and totaled 22 block assists for the match.
Bucknell (5-7, 1-2 PL) held leads in two of three sets, but Leanna Deegan of Lafayette (5-6, 2-1 PL) went off for 25 kills on 46 total attempts and just six errors for a .413 hitting percentage.
Bucknell looked strong out of the gates, scoring the first four points of the match and jumping out to an 8-1 lead in the first set. The Leopards responded, however, and used a 6-0 run to pull ahead at 16-13. Lafayette maintained at least a two-point lead the rest of the way until grabbing a 1-0 lead in the match with a 25-18 win in the first.
The two teams traded points in the second set and sat tied at 10-10 before a 4-0 Leopards run created separation, and Lafayette went up 2-0 in the match with a 25-21 win.
After trailing 8-6 in the third, a 6-2 run put the Bison up 12-10. The Leopards responded by claiming 12 of the next 13 points and would end up winning the set by an eight-point margin. Lafayette posted a match-high .441 hitting percentage in the third
Sophomore Sarah Ramirez led the Bison with 22 assists, and rookie libero Jordan Hardy finished with 11 digs. Also notable were a pair of block solos and one block assist for sophomore Valentina Feigl.
Bucknell goes back on the road later in the weekend to face Lehigh in Bethlehem, Pa. on Sunday, Sept. 26. The match is scheduled for 4 p.m.
