WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army West Point dispatched the Bucknell women's lacrosse team, 19-8, on Saturday at Michie Stadium.
The Black Knights (5-3, 5-2 PL) opened up a 13-3 lead at halftime and never looked back. For the Bison (3-5, 3-4 PL), Taylor Kopan netted her first career hat trick while Symone Ryans made 11 saves in her collegiate debut.
Beyond Kopan, Laurel McHale enjoyed a multi-point outing with a goal and an assist. Mason Rode added a team-best three draw controls as well as a goal and a caused turnover.
Army West Point's attack was led by Cameron Manor (4g-3a), Jackie Brattan (4g-1a) and Jolie Riedell (4g). Five other Black Knights found the back of the net over the course of the contest.
In the second half, Army West Point only outscored Bucknell by a 6-5 margin. The Bison strung together a 4-0 run from the 11:59 to the 4:44 marks of that frame, with Kopan netting two free-position goals during that span to complete her hat trick.
The Black Knights led in shots (43-14), shots on goal (30-12), ground balls (12-9) and draw controls (21-6). Their sizable advantage in draw controls was a direct result of Caroline Raymond (7), Julia Franzoni (6) and Brattan's (6) efforts.
Bucknell will next travel to Navy for a 6 p.m. game on Friday, April 30. The Bison and Mids will make up what would have been their Patriot League opener on Sunday, March 7.
