
Baseball Drops Series Finale to Virginia, 12-3

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Bucknell University baseball team fell in the final game of its four-game set against Virginia, 12-3, on Sunday afternoon. Virginia scored four runs in the third and six in the sixth as the Cavaliers took three out of four in the series with the win.
Bucknell (2-6), couldn't get the offense going less than 24 hours after notching a season-best 14 hits and 14 runs in a 14-10 win over the Cavaliers (5-3) on Saturday evening.
Bucknell took the lead in the game in the top of the second after Eunsang Yu led off the inning with a single to left center. Kyle Lyons singled two batters later before Evan Madigan reached on a throwing error from the Virginia infield that allowed Yu to score all the way from second.
Virginia tied the game in the bottom of the inning, before adding four more runs in the bottom of the third, all unearned. Two passed balls, a hit by pitch, and an error by the Bison allowed the Cavaliers to score four runs on just a single hit in the inning to take a 5-1 lead.
Bucknell came closest to tying the game in the top of the fifth, as JohnPaul Bell singled home Tyler Wincig before Jake Wortman added an RBI single down the right field line that scored Chris Cannizzaro. Wortman, who tallied five RBIs in the win over the Cavaliers on Saturday, pulled the Bison within two with that RBI single, 5-3.
Virginia pulled away after scoring a run in the bottom of the fifth before a six-run outburst in the bottom of the sixth. Four of the runs in the inning were unearned.
Bucknell managed five hits on the day, with Wortman and Bell collecting RBIs. Tyler Wincig, Kyle Lyons, and Yu managed Bucknell's other hits on the day.
The Bison will make their home debut on Friday, Feb. 28 at 3 p.m. against NJIT as part of a four-game series with the Highlanders.
