Geffert Sets Softball Program Wins Record in 7-4 Victory over Mount St. Mary's

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Senior pitcher Raeanne Geffert set a new Bucknell softball record with her 52nd career win on Sunday as she helped guide the team to a 7-4 victory over Mount St. Mary's. It was Bucknell's fourth win of the weekend at the Campbell Invitational. The team improved to 6-3 overall through two weekends of play.
Geffert, who also set the program record for career innings pitched (579.2) in Sunday's game, struck out 10 batters and earned just one of the Mountaineer's runs. It was Geffert's fourth double-digit strikeout game of the weekend after recording a career-high 16, which was one shy of the single game record, vs. the Mountaineers yesterday.
The Bison fell behind 4-1 in Sunday's game but put together a big five-run fourth inning that gave them the lead for good. Allyse Volpe, Chase Knapp, and Halie Mariano each posted two RBIs in the win, and Mariano went 3-for-3 at the plate with a pair of doubles and three runs scored.
The Mountaineers had taken a 3-0 lead in the third, capitalizing on a pair of Bucknell errors. The Bison committed five errors in the game, but the offense made up for it in the bottom of the fourth by scoring five runs in four consecutive at-bats.
It started with Lauren Lichtenwalner knocking in two runs with a single to left. The Bison also took advantage of errors by Mount St. Mary's, and Chase Knapp sent two more runs across later with her first career triple.
Bucknell added a seventh run in the sixth inning but wouldn't need it, as Mount St. Mary's was held scoreless over the last two innings.
Geffert improved to 4-2 on the season with the win and now has 52 in her career. She also set the program's career strikeouts record on Friday and finished the weekend with 505 in her career.
Bucknell heads back to North Carolina next weekend to take part in the Fairfield Crabtree Invitational, hosted by NC State. Bucknell will face the Wolfpack twice, as well as Indiana and Saint Joseph's. The weekend begins on Friday, Feb. 21 with a 12:30 p.m. game against Indiana.
