Women's Track and Field Hosts Gulden Invite

LEWISBURG, Pa. -- The Bucknell University women's track and field team will return to Gerhard Fieldhouse on Saturday after taking last weekend off for the annual Gulden Invite on Jan 25.

- Bucknell edged host Lehigh by eight points in taking the Angry Birds Challenge Team Title on Jan. 11 at Rauch Fieldhouse, the site of the Patriot League Championship on Feb. 29-March 1.
- Kaitlin Salisbury led seven wins on the day for the Bison as she took the top spot in the 60 for the second consecutive meet to open the season, and took third in the long jump (18-3.75).
- Valerie Fischer led a group of Bison freshman in the 400 that all earned top five spots. Fischer (59.10) took first to just edge teammate Jessie Castellano (59.30) Mackenzie Turner also placed in the top five in the field of 28 (59.80). The three, along with senior Becca Rooney, also contributed to Bucknell's first-place finish in the 4x400.
- Tara Lyons also posted her second win in the 800 in as many races this season (2:19.31), while Gianna Mincone took third (2:20.64).
- Junior Delia Sipe posted a strong day in the throws, winning the shot put (44-1.5) on her first attempt and placing fourth in the weight throw (49-5).
- Michaela Bracken joined Bucknell's top-ten list in the high jump, a new personal-best that is tied for seventh all-time. Also earning a place in the Bucknell history books was Gianna Macones, who became just the fourth athlete to reach the 19-foot mark in the long jump (19-0) in taking first place. Macones' distance ranks fourth in the Bucknell history books, and joins school-record holder Salisbury as two active long jumpers on the top ten list.
- Last year's Gulden Invitational was a successful one for Salisbury. The senior broke her own school record in the 60 at the time (7.61), as well as winning the long jump and the triple jump in being named the Most Valuable Field Athlete of the Meet.
- Tia Tardy (Mile), Emily Deschler (5000), Lexy Forrestal (high jump), and Sipe (shot put) all earned victories at the meet last season.

- Bucknell will travel to two meets from Jan. 31 – Feb. 1, with members of the squad competing in both the Penn State National Invite and the Bison Open and Multi.
