About the Bison
- Two teams off to 1-0 starts in Patriot League play clash in a Saturday afternoon Family Weekend match at Emmitt Field. Last week Bucknell opened Patriot League play with a 2-1 victory at Lafayette, while Boston University throttled American 4-1 at home.
- Both Bison goals in the Lafayette game came in a 70-second span early in the match, and freshman Abby Gearhart had a hand in both of them. She converted a 17th-minute penalty kick after classmate Rylee Donaldson was taken down in the box, and just after the resumption of play Chloe Christakos scored on a running header off of Gearhart's free-kick service.
- Freshman goalkeeper Kaylee Donnelly played a major role in the victory with 10 saves, seven coming in the second half. Three of those stops came after the Leopards cut Bucknell's lead to 2-1 in the 79th minute. It was Donnelly's third double-digit save performance of the season, and she leads the Patriot League in saves per game at 6.0.
- Following the Lafayette game, Donnelly was named Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week, and Gearhart was picked as the Patriot League Rookie of the Week. It was the second such honor this season for both players.
- Gearhart, Christakos and Gabby Bair share the team lead with two goals apiece. Petie Nassetta and Bri Kropinack have also found the back of the net.
- Senior midfielder Ali Russo and sophomore center back Holly Burns have both played all 826 minutes this season. Russo, in her second year as team captain, has played in 69 career games with 67 starts to lead all active Bison players.
- Head coach Kelly Cook is in her fifth season in Lewisburg. Cook has a 49-34-6 overall record and a 27-8-2 mark against Patriot League competition. Cook's .584 winning percentage is the highest in team history, and she needs three more wins to catch Toby Lovecchio for third-most in program history.
- Bucknell has finished .500 or better in Patriot League play in each of the last six seasons. The Bison have also qualified for the Patriot League Tournament in each of those six seasons and 21 times overall. The 21 PL postseason appearances is tied with Navy for second-most in league history, trailing only Colgate with 26. Bucknell has advanced to the championship game six times and is 4-2 in those appearances, with the league titles coming in 2001, 2005, 2016 and 2017.
- Bucknell was picked tied for fifth (with Army West Point) in the Patriot League Preseason Poll. Boston University was selected as the preseason favorite, followed by Colgate, Navy and Lehigh.
About Boston University/Series History
- Boston University comes to Lewisburg riding a four-game winning streak after starting the season 0-5-1 against tough competition. After successive losses to Colorado, Boston College, Michigan State, Princeton and Connecticut, the Terriers have bounced back with wins over Northeastern, Rhode Island, American and Stony Brook.
- Boston University has outscored foes 8-1 during its current winning streak.
- After opening conference play with a 4-1 win over American last Saturday, the Terriers used goals from Caitlyn DeSarcina and Julianna Stureman to turn back Stony Brook 2-0 in non-league action on Wednesday.
- Ashley Raphael and Shannon Keefe lead the team with two goals, and six others have scored one goal apiece.
- Morgan Messner and Amanda Fay have rotated in goal, with each starting five matches. The duo has very similar numbers. Messner has 25 saves and eight goals allowed, while Fay has 28 saves with seven goals against. Both keepers have presided over two victories.
- Bucknell and Boston University have become quite familiar foes in the Terriers' short time in the Patriot League. Since their arrival in 2013, the two sides have met nine times, including postseason matchups in 2015, 2016 and 2017.
- Boston U. leads the series 5-4, including wins in the first four meetings. The Bison came back to win the next four, highlighted by a memorable 2-1 win on Cora Climo's overtime goal in the 2016 Patriot League championship game. Bucknell also defeated Boston University 1-0 in the 2017 semifinals in Annapolis, Md., and two days later the Bison beat Navy to repeat as champions.
- The Terriers ended Bucknell's four-match series winning streak with a 2-0 verdict in Boston last season.
- The Bison have won the last three meetings at Emmitt Field.
