Bucknell at a Glance
- The final game of the 2025 regular season has arrived, which means a litany of Patriot League Tournament scenarios are at stake. Nine of the 10 teams are alive for a postseason bid entering the final match day, and only three teams have clinched playoff spots.
- Bucknell hosts American on Wednesday night, and the two teams are in similar positions needing a win and some help to qualify for the six-team Patriot League Tournament. The Bison and Eagles are tied for the 8-9 spots with seven points, but they are only two points behind the 5-6-7 trio of Holy Cross, Lafayette, and Navy. Loyola sits in fourth place with 10 points. Bucknell will need to win and pass two of the teams in front of them to move on to the quarterfinal round.
- There is also drama at the top of the table, where Boston University and Colgate are tied on 19 points – and play each other on Wednesday in Boston. Army is three points back.
- Wednesday's fixtures:
- Colgate at Boston University, 6 p.m.
- Navy at Loyola, 6 p.m.
- Army at Holy Cross, 6 p.m.
- Lehigh at Lafayette, 7 p.m.
- American at Bucknell, 7 p.m. Â
- The Bison are coming off a 4-2 loss at co-leader Colgate on Saturday. Down 3-0, Bucknell pulled within 3-2 on goals from Caitlyn Scott and Katie Connell, but the Raiders iced it with a late penalty kick.
- The Bison have seen a few shots hit the back of the net over the last week after being kept off the board in four straight games. Henna Andican's 86th-minute equalizer gave them a draw against Navy, and then Bucknell scored twice on Saturday at Colgate. Scott's goal, a header on a corner kick, was the first of her career. Â
- Andican leads the team and ranks sixth in the Patriot League with six goals. Katie Connell (5) and Gaby Parker (3) close behind, and Scott, Louisa Thomsen, Dani Howard, Emma Gavin, and Reilly Traynor have one goal each.
- The Bison have a different look this season, as 12 players have made their first career starts and six have scored their first career goals. The current starting XI typically features three freshmen and five sophomores.
- Bucknell won three straight Patriot League championships from 2021-23, and last year the Bison claimed the PL regular-season title before falling to Boston University in a 10-round penalty-kick shootout in the championship match. The Bison graduated a highly decorated senior class, led by three-time PL Midfielder of the Year Teresa Deda and 2024 PL Defensive Player of the Year Katie Schiano.
- Andican and Connell both earned Preseason All-Patriot League honors. Andican was a Second Team All-PL pick in 2023, but last year she suffered a season-ending injury in just the fifth game of the campaign. Connell was a Third Team All-PL pick as a freshman in 2024.
- Andican, Sydney Hess, and Meghan White are this year's captains.
- Head coach Kelly Cook is in her 11th season at Bucknell, and she has led the Bison to five league titles in her first 10 years. Cook owns a career record of 98-71-33 (.567) and a Patriot League mark of 53-23-18 (.660). She holds the program records for most coaching wins and highest winning percentage.
- Cook knows the Patriot League very well, as she was a two-year captain and three-time Second Team All-Patriot League selection at Colgate, where she recorded 27 goals and 23 assists in her career. She ranked in the top 10 in program history in career points (77) and assists. As a junior in 2004, Cook (then Kelly Kuss) was named Patriot League Tournament MVP after leading the Raiders to the league title, and then her team knocked off Arizona in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, marking the first NCAA win in school and league history.       Â
- The Eagles come to Lewisburg with a 2-10-4 overall record and a 2-5-1 mark in Patriot League play. American opened PL play with a last-minute 2-1 win over Army, and the Eagles also have a 3-1 win over Lehigh and a 0-0 draw with Holy Cross. All seven of their points have come at home.
- After conceding nine goals in their previous two games, American notched a clean sheet in the scoreless draw with Holy Cross on Saturday. It was the team's second shutout of the season, with the other coming in a 0-0 tie at George Mason on Sept. 14.
- American has scored 12 goals in 16 games this season. Jennifer McGuire and Avery Klingensmith lead the team with three goals, and Phoebe Merrigan has a goal and four assists. Bella Vozar's lone goal came with 44 seconds left in the 2-1 win over Army.
- Goalkeeper Addison Roemer has 81 saves with 23 goals against in 14 appearances. She has a .779 save percentage and a 1.73 GAA.
- Bucknell is 16-8-2 all-time against the Eagles and has dominated the recent series. The Bison have won the last five meetings and are 10-0-1 in the last 11.
- The Bison won 3-1 in D.C. last season, despite conceding a goal just 2:20 into the match. After Jennifer McGuire scored for AU, Reese Evans (12'), Kelley Francis (77'), and Katie Connell (82'). Teresa Deda assisted on all three goals to tie the Bucknell career record.
- In the last meeting at Emmitt Field, Henna Andican's goal in the 26th minute was all Bucknell needed in a 1-0 win.
- Andican and Connell are the only active Bison with goals against AU.
- Bucknell and American have met twice in the postseason. Bucknell won 2-1 in the 2001 Patriot League semifinals on the way to the league title, and the Eagles won 1-0 in the 2009 semis.
- If the Bison are able to move into Patriot League Tournament position, they would play a quarterfinal game on the road on Sunday.
