Softball Swept in Doubleheader at Saint Francis Despite Hitting Seven Home Runs

LORETTO – Bucknell softball hit seven home runs over two games of a doubleheader at Saint Francis on Saturday, but dropped both games as the Red Flash rallied late in both contests. The Bison dropped to 26-21 with an 8-7 loss in game one and a 9-8 loss in game two.
Six players combined for Bucknell's seven home runs, including two by Anna Gimmestad. The Bison have 27 on the season, which ranks third in program history. Saint Francis countered with seven home runs of its own over the two games, including five in game two.
The Red Flash, the two-time defending champions in the NEC, improved to 23-27.
That closes the non-conference schedule for Bucknell. The Bison wrap up the regular season with three Patriot League games against Boston University at Becker Field on May 4-5. The Bison can clinch hosting rights for the four-team conference tournament with at least two wins in that series.
Game 1 – Saint Francis 8, Bucknell 7
Saint Francis erased a 7-2 deficit with six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to beat Bucknell 8-7 in the first game of the day.
Lauren Hadley, Lauren Lichtenwalner, and Allyse Volpe all homered for Bucknell. Hadley's seventh home run of the season put Bucknell put Bucknell up 2-0 in the third inning, while Lichtenwalner's first career blast was a three-run shot that broke a 2-2 tie in the sixth inning.
Two batters after Lichtenwalner, Volpe hit her second home run of the season, a two-run shot that appeared to give Bucknell a comfortable 7-2 lead.
The big sixth inning for the Red Flash was highlighted by a go-ahead solo home run by Cheyenne McKee.
Bucknell finished with nine hits, including two apiece from freshmen Volpe and Nicole Rivait. Taylor Wolfgang doubled, while Jess Hom and Ava Fairbanks each singled.
Game 2 – Saint Francis 9, Bucknell 8
Gimmestad put Bucknell up 8-7 with a two-run home run in the top of the seventh inning, but Saint Francis responded with a two-run, walk-off single by Hayley Norton in the bottom half of the inning.
Sierra McKee's homer was the fifth of the game for Saint Francis. They were hit by five different players,
