Softball Splits Doubleheader with Boston U. to Set Up Regular Season Title Game on Sunday

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Hosting rights for the Patriot League Softball Tournament will be determined with the result of the final game of the season after Bucknell and Boston University split their doubleheader Saturday at Becker Field. The winner of Sunday's game, which has been moved to 2 p.m., will be the top seed and host of the four-team event.
Boston University (34-18, 15-2 PL) won Saturday's first game 3-2, but Bucknell (27-22, 14-3 PL) kept their regular season title hopes alive with a 4-1 victory in game two. The Bison would win the tiebreaker for the top seed based on head-to-head results if they are able to win Sunday's game.
Bucknell has never been the top seed or hosted the Patriot League Tournament.
Game 2 – Bucknell 4, Boston University 1
Canadian freshmen Nicole Rivait and Allyse Volpe hit back-to-back two-run singles in the bottom of the fourth inning to lead the Bison to a 4-1 win in the second game of the day.
Rivait and Volpe both came through with clutch hits in two-on, two-out situations. Rivait drove in Jess Hom and Bella DeRiso with her hit, while Volpe plated Ryanne Rokos and Rivait with her single.
Raeanne Geffert stepped up big in a complete-game pitching performance. She allowed five hits, didn't walk a batter, and struck out three. Boston University scored its lone run off Geffert with a sacrifice fly by Emily Morrow in the top of the fifth inning.
With one strikeout in the first game and her three punchouts in the second, Geffert has 163 on the season. She needs just two more to pass Amanda Fazio for the program's single-season record.
Bucknell finished with seven hits off the best pitching staff statistically in the Patriot League. Hom and Rivait had two singles apiece. Anna Gimmestad doubled, while Rokos joined Volpe with one single apiece.
Volpe is a strong Patriot League Rookie of the Year candidate. She is hitting .531 (26-49) with one double, two triples, and eight stolen bases in the 14 conference games she played. She has at least one hit in all 14 of those games. The freshman also has a current 14-game hitting streak.
Boston University had a chance to take the first lead, but Geffert escaped the top of the fourth inning unscathed despite putting runners on second and third with nobody out. Geffert got the first out with a strikeout and then made a nice defensive play on a bunt to get a runner at home for the second out. She finished off the inning with a pop-up.
Game 1 – Boston University 3, Bucknell 2
Boston University scored all of its runs in the first inning to beat Bucknell 3-2 in the first game of the doubleheader.
Bucknell's runs came early, too. The Bison got one back in the bottom of the first thanks to an RBI single by Hom, and then pulled within one when Rivait scored on an error in the bottom of the second.
The Bison, who finished with four hits, didn't get a runner in scoring position after the second inning.
Lauren Lichtenwalner and Geffert pitched well for Bucknell. Lichtenwalner started and went four innings, giving up two earned runs on six hits and one walk. Geffert pitched three scoreless frames, allowing two hits and one walk.
Hom had two of Bucknell's four hits. Volpe and Halie Mariano each had one single.
