Softball Beats Santa Clara, Falls to San Jose State

SAN JOSE, Calif. – Bucknell softball split a pair of games Tuesday with an 8-4 win over Santa Clara and a 4-2 loss to San Jose State. Both games were played at San Jose State's Spartan Softball Field.
The Bison moved to 7-11 on the season and now turn their attention to a doubleheader at Pacific on Wednesday. The first game is scheduled for 4 p.m. (EST) at Bill Simoni Field.
Anna Gimmestad hit safely in both contests to up her hitting streak to 10 games. That's the longest by a Bucknell player this season.
Bucknell 8, Santa Clara 4
The Bison trailed by one before scoring four unearned runs in the top of the fifth inning in an 8-4 win over Santa Clara. The Broncos dropped to 4-13.
Bucknell led 2-0 early after scoring one run in each of the first two innings. Anna Gimmestad scored on an RBI double by Lauren Hadley in the first inning, while Taylor Wolfgang doubled and then scored on an RBI single by Ava Fairbanks in the second.
Santa Clara scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, but Bucknell responded immediately. The Bison took advantage of three errors by the Broncos in the fifth inning, scoring four runs without a hit. The rally started with a walk by Nicole Rivait. Hadley and Wolfgang had RBIs.
The Bison tacked on two insurance runs in the top of the seventh and held Santa Clara to one in the bottom half of the inning to get the win.
Bucknell had five hits, led by Hadley with a single and double. Gimmestad and Wolfgang each had a double, while Fairbanks had one single.
Raeanne Geffert went the distance to notch her fourth win of the season. The junior gave up four runs, two earned, on nine hits and two walks. She struck out three batters.
San Jose State 4, Bucknell 2
San Jose State rallied for three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to get the win, improving to 12-9 on the season.
Bucknell scored twice in the fifth inning to take a 2-1 lead. Lauren Lichtenwalner led off with a single, and her pinch-runner, Tara Baglivo, would later score on a single by Gimmestad to tie the game. Hadley followed with an RBI single that scored Allyse Volpe.
A Bucknell error proved costly in the sixth inning as San Jose State's game-tying and go-ahead runs were unearned.
The Bison finished with five hits, which were singles by Volpe, Gimmestad, Hadley, Fairbanks, and Lichtenwalner.
