EMMITSBURG, Pa. - Junior Laura Nuss scored two of her four goals during a three-goal run for Bucknell, and the Bison women's lacrosse team went on to an 8-7 win over Mount St. Mary's on Tuesday, April 1. The win was BU's third in a row, improving its record to 4-4.
Mount St. Mary's jumped ahead 2-1 after nearly 13 minutes had elapsed, before the Orange and Blue started their run. Junior Meredith Wright tallied a free position goal with 12:37 left in the first half to knot the score, 2-2. Just over three minutes later, Nuss scored her first on the day, taking a pass from sophomore Ellen Kurkowski to give the Bison their first lead of the game. Less then three minutes later, Nuss made it a 4-2 game, converting a feed from senior Suzanne Raffaele with 6:41 to go in the period.
The Mount responded with two of their own in a two minute span to tie the game again, 4-4, but sophomore Andrea Paraud drove home a pass from freshman Victoria Field with 1:37 until the break to give Bucknell a one-goal cushion at halftime, 4-3.
Just nine minutes into the second half, Mount St. Mary's had reclaimed the lead with two unanswered scores from Erin LaMotte and Addie Lewis. Nuss ended The Mount's run with her third of the game, less than a minute after Mount St. Mary's had taken the one goal lead.
LaMotte put her team back on top when Kirby Day found her at the 18:58 mark, but that was the last time the host team would find the back of the net.
Paraud hooked up with Raffaele for another Bison score just 1:46 later to tie the contest, 7-7, and Nuss tallied the game-winner on a free position shot with 15:40 to play.
Bucknell held a slight advantage in shots, 32-26, while The Mount led 9-8 in draw controls. BU senior Nicole Kallis recorded 11 saves, while Mount St. Mary's goalie Naomi Campano stopped 13 Bison shots.
The Orange and Blue are 4-4 overall and will be in action next on Saturday, April 5, when they continue a four-game road trip at Duquesne at 12:00 p.m. Mount St. Mary's falls to 3-7 overall.
