Men’s Tennis Rolls on Final Day at Carnegie Mellon

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Bucknell men's tennis team enjoyed a dominant final day at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational on Sunday. The Bison primarily took on players from Edinboro and swept all six singles matches and all three doubles tilts in quick order from the Fighting Scots.

Bucknell conceded only five games in the three doubles matches and only 21 in six straight-set singles wins. All told, the Bison went 17-4 in singles and 7-5 in doubles over three days against Edinboro, Duquesne, and Carnegie Mellon.

Senior Will Robinson and freshman Brady Friesen set the tone in doubles play with a 6-0 whitewash over Duarte Correia and Arsen Tabaldyev. Junior Nelson Alapi and sophomore Tyler Bush followed with a 6-2 win, and the freshman pair of Justin Yuan and Jovan Morales won 6-3.

Senior Liam Kilmer led the singles sweep with a 6-0, 6-4 win over Correia, and freshman Enoch Lin downed Tabaldyev 6-3, 6-2.

Bush cruised past Philipp Paulus 6-2, 6-0; Friesen downed Gerardo Garrido Guzman 6-2, 6-4; freshman Vlad Dombrovskyi beat Rafael Nogueira de Vasconcellos 6-2, 6-0; and Robinson was nearly flawless in a 6-1, 6-0 rout of Fergus McFadzean.

Next up for the Bison is the ITA East Regional tournament, hosted by Penn, on Oct. 15-18.
