LEWISBURG, Pa. – Freddie Lapworth, a 2026 Bucknell graduate who was a 2024 Patriot League champion on the men's soccer team, has been selected as a recipient of the prestigious Patriot League Award of Outstanding Leadership and Character. Lapworth was named along with Navy women's basketball student athlete Maren Louridas, and he becomes the second consecutive Bucknell men's soccer player to receive the honor after Jack Roberto was the 2025 recipient.
Lapworth was a four-year member of the Bison men's soccer team and the 2024 Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Year. In Bucknell's 2024 Patriot League Championship season, Lapworth and the Bison led the Patriot League with seven shutouts, three more than the next closest team. His seven shutouts ranked 11th in Division I.
The Banbury, England native ranked second in the league with a 1.06 goals-against average (GAA) and a .766 save percentage in 2024. In 2025, Lapworth was named to the All-Patriot League First Team for the second straight season, and he held a .710 save percentage with six shutouts to rank fourth in the league. His six shutouts all came in league action as the Bison led the league with seven in league action. Lapworth ranks sixth in Bucknell history with 16 career shutouts.
Lapworth's impact on Bucknell University and fellow student-athletes extends well beyond the pitch. He has been an active member of Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and served on the executive board as the Director of Initiatives in 2024-25 before assuming the role of SAAC President in 2025-26. Lapworth was also selected to serve as a member of Bucknell's Athletics Leadership Institute for the past two years.
In his leadership positions, Lapworth has strengthened the connection of Bucknell student-athletes and the community. He consistently remained a driving force for community initiatives working with local youth, the local community and those in need. Under Lapworth's leadership, the SAAC has organized Mental Health Week, a Stick-or-Treat Halloween event, Black History Month Reading Initiative with elementary schools, brand-new initiative with Camp Koala, and much more.
Among Bucknell Athletics, Lapworth has become one of the most recognizable names on campus. As an international student, he has immersed himself in the community and culture of Bucknell. His joy and enthusiasm was felt throughout the community, whether it was working the front desk of the Kenneth Langone Athletics and Recreation Center to wearing a suit and tie for a local bingo night. In his free time, he was an instructor with BisonRec where he taught HIIT, Pilates and spin classes.
On top of his service to the community and student-athletes, Lapworth was a representative on the Committee on Athletics and served on a new community through the Dean of Students to focus on student-athlete experience. Academically, he was the Director of Alumni Relations for the Bucknell Real Estate Club, enhancing connections with Bucknell alumni and growing the club's visibility.
Lapworth is the 10th Bucknell student-athlete to receive the Patriot League Award of Outstanding Leadership and Character since its inception in 2011-12. He joins Andrea Seifert (rowing, 2015), Ryan Frazier (men's basketball, 2015), Jesse Klug (men's soccer 2016), Sune Swart (women's basketball, 2017), Meghan Kovac (softball, 2018), Abby Kapp (women's basketball, 2021), Nicole Rivait (softball, 2022), Clara McCormick (field hockey, 2023), and Jack Roberto (men's soccer, 2025) as Bucknell recipients.
