Roskos' Early Goal Stands as Match-Winner in 1-0 Victory Over Mount St. Mary's

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Drew Roskos' early goal stood as the match winner as the Bucknell men's soccer team saw out a 1-0 victory over Mount St. Mary's on Tuesday night at Emmitt Field.
Bucknell (4-6-1) held roughly 69 percent of possession in the match, dominating The Mount in the attacking third. The Bison took 15 shots in the match with three shots on target. The Bison were also strong defensively, holding Mount St. Mary's to just four shots in the match.
Mount St. Mary's (2-3-6) sat back in the match looking for opportunities on the counter attack, but the Bison defense shut down any opportunities on the break. Thomas Yerbury had a quiet day in net with no saves as The Mount did not register a shot on target.
Roskos nearly scored just five minutes into the match with a header that was saved by Lars Almankaas, who made two saves in the match. Roskos got on the end a great service by Jack Lucas, and Roskos' low header was denied at the near post.
The junior forward then found the breakthrough in the 21st minute on a similar situation. Lucas delivered another great ball from the wing and Roskos leaped for a brilliant header into the far post.
The Bison held roughly 74 percent of possession after in the first half, and Viktor Permyashkin, Colin Findlay and David Krumov all had shots from outside of the box that sailed just wide of goal.
There was not much going in the second half for either side. Lucas had an early shot that was saved and another that was deflected inches wide.
Mount St. Mary's best opportunity of the match came early in the 15th minute. Oliver Barta jumped on a second chance ball on a corner, but Kiko Hidalgo jumped in front to block the shot.
The match become physical towards the end, and The Mount were shown four cards in the final 15 minutes. Kevin Rivera was sent off in the 89th minute for a challenge on Kasper Piela in the final moments.
Bucknell continues a four-match home stand as Holy Cross comes to Lewisburg for a 1 p.m. kickoff at Emmitt Field on Saturday.
