Baseball Fighting For Top Seed In Final Regular Season Series at Lehigh

The Bucknell baseball team heads to Bethlehem for its final regular season series of the season against Lehigh. The Bison and Mountain will play a three-game set as Army, Bucknell and Navy are all tied at 15-8 atop of the Patriot League standings.

It is shaping up to be a thrilling final weekend in the Patriot League. Bucknell takes on Lehigh, who the Bison already swept at Depew Field at Marren Park earlier this season. Army and Navy go head-to-head in Annapolis for their final series of the regular season.

After losing the first two games of the series to Navy which gave the Mids sole possession of first, the Bison battled for a marathon win in 13 innings in game three to create a three-way tie for first place.

Bucknell entered last weekend with a one-game lead over Navy and a two-game lead over Army. Army trailed 8-4 in game two and 5-0 in game three before pulling off miraculous comebacks leading to walk-off wins. Holy Cross (12-11 PL) sits three games off of the league-leaders. Army, Bucknell, Holy Cross and Navy have all clinched playoff berths and are now battling for seeding. The last time Bucknell earned the one-seed in the Patriot League tournament was back in 2014.

Hadley Maxwell was named to the NCBWA Stopper of the Year Midseason Watch List a week ago. Maxwell is one of 61 relief pitchers named to the watch list. He ranks 10th in the nation with nine saves. The senior is tied for second in program history for single-season saves (9) and tied for fourth in career saves (12) with former Major League Baseball player, Eric Junge.Â

Last Time Out at Navy
- Bucknell opened its series against Navy dropping both games of a doubleheader on Sunday. The Bison held leads in both games behind solid starts on the mound by Jake Schultz and Brady Hoar, but Navy rallied to come back and win both games.
- The Bison won an important series finale 5-4 in 13 innings off of Zach Selfon's walk off. The Bison led 4-2 before Navy tied it up with runs in the sixth and seventh innings. Bryce Mitchell and Hadley Maxwell combined to pitch 6.2 scoreless innings in relief allowing just two hits with six strikeouts. The Bison stranded several runners in scoring position in extras, but an unexpected play plated the winning run. Selfon popped up to no-man's land behind shortstop, but the ball dropped in and Chris Morabito scored all the way from first to win the game.
- Bucknell swept Lehigh last time out at Depew Field at Marren Park, taking scores of 3-2, 6-3, 12-11. Bucknell's only walk-off win prior to Navy this season was against Lehigh as Andrew Swenson won it for the Bison in game three.
- Bucknell smacked 27 hits in the series and drew 16 walks. Ty Lagoni had five hits and six RBIs. Michael Trommer and Garrett Mathias each had four hits. Deacon Bowne and Mathias each had three RBIs.
- Hadley Maxwell picked up two saves against Lehigh, tossing 1.2 scoreless innings between the two outings.
- Everett Garber allowed one run in seven innings with seven strikeouts in his start in game one.
- Jake Schultz allowed one run in 3.2 innings in his game two start. Bryce Mitchell allowed one run in five strong innings in relief over two appearances against Lehigh.
- Bucknell is hitting .248 at the plate and pitchers have posted a 6.19 team ERA. Opponents are hitting .272 against the Bison and pitchers have a 5.00 ERA.
- In conference play, the Bison lead the Patriot League with a .273 batting average and rank second to Navy with a 4.89 ERA.
- Left fielder Michael Trommer is hitting .303/.405/.545 for a .950 OPS and leads the team with 50 hits. He has nine home runs, 22 RBIs and 37 runs scored along with 16 multi-hit games. The senior has 11 doubles and 21 extra-base hits. Trommer has drawn 22 walks and seven hit-by-pitches.
- Freshman DH and first baseman Garrett Mathias is hitting .300/.417/.515 for a .932 OPS to begin his collegiate career. He has 39 hits and a team-high 37 RBIs. Mathias has seven home runs on the season, including a home run in his first collegiate at-bat. He started his career with a 37-game on-base streak that came to an end against Penn State. Mathias is 14-for-40 (.350) with 13 RBIs with runners in scoring position.
- Leyton Coupe is batting .292/.406/.483 in 33 games with 26 starts. Coupe has 11 extra-base hits including two home runs and 17 RBIs. He is 9-for-28 (.321) with runners in scoring position.
- Right fielder John Calabrese is hitting .284 in 38 games with 29 starts. Calabrese has 16 RBIs and 11 of his 27 hits have been doubles. Calabrese has drawn 15 walks and struck out just 16 times. Calabrese is 10-for-28 (.357) with six RBIS with runners in scoring position.
- Centerfielder Billy Fluharty is batting .278 at the plate and is second on the team with 47 hits. The leadoff hitter has 16 RBIs, 31 runs scored and nine extra-base hits. He has 12 multi-hit games including four four-hit games.
- Zach Selfon is hitting .252 with 39 hits and 15 RBIs. He has walked 18 times and was hit by seven pitches compared to just 21 strikeouts in 155 at-bats.
- Outfielder Michael Chiaravallo is hitting .345 (20-for-58) with 14 RBIs in 31 games with 13 starts. He is slashing .345/.418/.586 for a 1.004 OPS. He is 5-for-13 (.385) when pinch hitting and 9-for-22 (.409) with runners in scoring position.
- Ty Lagoni is batting .223 and is second on the team with 29 RBIs. He has four home runs and 37 hits. The shortstop has been named a Patriot League Player of the Week twice this season.
- The Bison have hit 31 home runs. Trommer, Chiaravallo and Mathias all homered in their first at-bats of the season. Garrison Bullock homered in his second at-bat of the year. Tommer leads the team with nine and Mathias has seven for the Bison.
- Everett Garber has a 4.93 ERA in 45.2 innings over nine starts. Garber is 3-3 on the mound and has six outings of at least five innings or more. He has one complete game against Lafayette this season. He has allowed 25 earned runs on 47 hits and has 47 strikeouts compared to 25 walks.
- Freshman Brady Hoar has a 5.08 ERA in 11 starts and is 5-3 on the season. Hoar has four starts of at least five innings where he allowed one run or less. He has pitched five quality starts this season. Hoar has been named a Patriot League Rookie of the Week twice and Pitcher of the Week once.
- Jonathan Adelmann has a 3.00 ERA in five starts for the Bison in his new role for the Bison. He's pitched 27.0 innings, going five innings or more in three starts. He's gone seven innings in each of the last two games, giving quality starts against both Saint Joseph's and Lafayette. He's struck out 25 batters compared to three walks the last two starts.
- Hadley Maxwell has a 2.22 ERA and is 9-for-10 in save opportunities this season for the Bison. Among the NCAA rankings, Maxwell's nine saves are tied for fourth. He's allowed six earned runs on 21 hits with 27 strikeouts in 24.1 innings. Navy tagged him for four runs on Sunday, but Maxwell came back with four shutout innings to earn his first win of the season on Monday. Â
- Jake Schultz has 3.33 ERA in eight appearances with six starts. He made his return to the mound in over a year against No. 15 North Carolina. He's allowed 10 earned runs on 21 hits over 24.1 innings. He threw four scoreless innings with a career-high seven strikeouts in Bucknell's 5-4 win over Holy Cross.Â
- Liam Jones has a 5.14 ERA in 10 relief appearances. He has not allowed an earned run in six of his 10 appearances. He's allowed eight earned runs on 20 hits in 14.0 innings with 15 strikeouts.
- Tyler Seidman has a 5.90 ERA in 13 appearances with three starts. Seidman made a spot start on Sunday against Army where he pitcher six one-hit innings as the Bison shut out Army 8-0. He followed with five innings against Navy where he allowed just two runs.
- Senior Ryan Facinelli was named to the Preseason All-Patriot League Team and was a Second Team All-Patriot League selection in 2025.
- Bucknell posted an 18-27 overall record with a 10-15 mark in the Patriot League last season. The Bison finished fifth in the PL missed the playoffs after making the postseason the previous three seasons.
- Holy Cross won the 2025 Patriot League Championship, ending Army's six-year run as champions.
- Head coach Scott Heather is in his 14th season at the helm, and he is the third-longest tenured coach in program history. Heather's 263 career wins are second-most in team history, trailing only Hall-of-Famer Gene Depew (591).
