The Inside "Herd" on the Bison
- Bucknell defeated Keystone State rival Lehigh in two of three games last weekend to re-insert itself back into the race for the final tournament bid.
- The Bison won the first game 2-1 with a combination of stellar pitching by Consentino and Avery Powers and two clutch hits by Brooke Popella and Speicher.Â
- Lehigh laced the ball in game two for the 11-3 (6) victory.Â
- The Orange & Blue bounced back in the rubber match for the dramatic 4-3 series win. Powers hurled the complete game effort and Bucknell broke a 1-1 deadlock with two RBI doubles by Molly Lawson and Rapino. Popella added a crucial insurance run.Â
- Popella collected two doubles last weekend, moving into sole possession of third all-time in Bucknell single-season history.Â
- Popella now leads the conference and sits second nationally in doubles per game (.45).Â
- Three Bison are hitting above .300 - Popella (.316), Speicher (.319), and Sarah Zimmerman (.326).Â
- Speicher enjoyed a successful weekend against Lehigh, going 5-of-9 with the game-winning RBI triple in the first contest.Â
- Powers has now won six of Bucknell's eight victories.Â
- Bucknell sits tied for fourth in the conference at 5-7 with Lafayette. Holy Cross lurks behind the Bison and Leopards at 4-8. Boston has already clinched homefield advantage at 13-2. Army and Colgate are tied for second at 7-5. The final tournament spot is wide open.
- The Orange & Blue face Army and Colgate in the last two weekends. Lafayette duels Colgate this weekend and then challenges archrival Lehigh in the final weekend.Â
- The Black Knights are 27-22 overall - the only other Patriot League school with a winning record - and 7-5 in the conference. Army will not repeat its 2025 regular season title but West Point retains a potent battery of weapons. Four Black Knights are hitting above .300 with Hannah Laub topping off at .407. Ashton White, the scourge of PL pitching, slashes .366/.596/.986 with eight home runs and 37 RBIs. Army is efficient at stolen bases, swiping 62 on 69 attempts. The Black Knights have the best overall staff in the league, compiling a 3.34 ERA with three hurlers, Amanda Eaglin, Katelyn Flanders, and Breanna Izzo, throwing 311 2/3 of the team's 320 2/3 innings. The Bison have faced all three arms in previous years and should expect to see the entire trio.Â
- Army leads the all-time series 79-46 and has won the last six games, including two in the 2025 Patriot League Tournament. Bucknell nearly upset the first-seeded Black Knights in the tournament's opening game before falling 3-2. Bucknell won the 2024 series at Becker Field versus the Black Knights.
