Baseball Hosts Navy for Big 1-2 Showdown in the Patriot League

Bucknell welcomes back over 20 alumni from the 1996 and 2001 Patriot League Championship teams for recognition before the start of the game on Saturday, April 25.

Sunday's series finale against Navy will be Senior Day. The Bison will celebrate seniors Garrison Bullock, Ryan DeLaney, Ryan Facinelli, Ethan Firestein, Kobe Julks, Hadley Maxwell, Mikey Myro and Michael Trommer.

The Bucknell baseball team returns to Depew Field at Marren Park for its final regular-season home series against Navy for a big 1-2 showdown in the Patriot League with just six games remaining. The Bison and Midshipmen kick off the series with a doubleheader on Saturday before the series finale on Sunday.

Bucknell dropped three games of a four-game series to Army over the weekend. Army and Navy had gotten back within one game of the Bison in the Patriot League standings, but the Bison won the series finale to keep a hold on first place in the Patriot League. If Army would have won the series finale, there would have been a three-way tie for first place in the standings. Â

Navy dominated Holy Cross last weekend as the Mids earned a four-game sweep. The Mids are most recently coming off of a 7-3 win over Maryland Eastern Shore on Wednesday. The Bison are coming off of a 9-7 loss at Penn State.

Bucknell (14-6) holds a one-game lead over Navy (13-7) after the Mids swept Holy Cross (10-10). Army (12-8) sits two games back of the Bison and the Crusaders are four games back of the lead. With Bucknell's win and a Lehigh loss, the Bison clinched a playoff berth.

Navy's Tyler Cripe was named this week's Patriot League Player and Rookie of the Week after a 7-for-15 series with two home runs and five RBIs against Holy Cross.

Hadley Maxwell was named to the NCBWA Stopper of the Year Midseason Watch List on Wednesday. Maxwell is one of 61 relief pitchers named to the watch list. He ranks fifth in the nation with nine saves. The senior is tied for second in program history for single-season saves (9) and tied for fourth in career saves (12) with former Major League Baseball player, Eric Junge.Â

Last Time Out at Navy
- Bucknell took two games of a three-game series from Navy in Annapolis earlier this season. Â
- Bucknell took game one of the doubleheader on Saturday 7-3 in seven innings. The Bison trailed 3-1 headed to the seventh before a six-run explosion flipped the game. Zach Selfon tied the game with a two-run single before Ryan Facinelli hit a three-run double to put the Bison in front. Tyler Seidman earned his first career win with a perfect sixth and seventh inning.
- Navy shutdown the Bison in game two, going on to win 8-3. The Midshipmen took a 5-0 lead before the Bison cut it to 5-3. The Mids made it 8-3 in the sixth, but the Bison went down in order over the final three innings.
- Brady Hoar tossed a career-high seven innings allowing just one run on four hits to preserve Bucknell's lead after an early two-run homer by Garrett Mathias. Jake Schultz tossed two innings in relief, getting out of a jam in the eighth and tossing a scoreless ninth for his first career save.
- Bucknell is hitting .247 at the plate and pitchers have posted a 6.27 team ERA. Opponents are hitting .272 against the Bison and pitchers have a 5.16 ERA.
- In conference play, the Bison lead the Patriot League with a .275 batting average and rank second to Navy with a 4.81 ERA.
- Left fielder Michael Trommer is hitting .313/.422/.567 for a .989 OPS and leads the team with 47 hits. He has nine home runs, 21 RBIs and 36 runs scored along with 15 multi-hit games. The senior has 11 doubles and 20 extra-base hits. Trommer has drawn 22 walks and seven hit-by-pitches.
- Leyton Coupe is batting .304/.427/.494 in 30 games with 24 starts. Coupe has 10 extra-base hits including two home runs and 16 RBIs. He is 9-for-26 (.346) with runners in scoring position.
- Freshman DH and first baseman Garrett Mathias is hitting .276/.405/.474 to begin his collegiate career. He is 32-for-116 at the plate and leads the team with 35 RBIs. Mathias has six home runs on the season, including a home run in his first collegiate at-bat. He started his career with a 37-game on-base streak that came to an end against Penn State. Mathias is 13-for-36 (.361) with 12 RBIs with runners in scoring position.
- Outfielder Michael Chiaravallo is hitting .345 (20-for-58) with 14 RBIs in 30 games with 13 starts. He is slashing .345/.418/.586 for a 1.004 OPS. He is 5-for-13 (.385) when pinch hitting and 9-for-22 (.409) with runners in scoring position.
- Centerfielder Billy Fluharty is batting .265 at the plate and is second on the team with 41 hits. The leadoff hitter has 15 RBIs, 29 runs scored and eight extra-base hits.
- Right fielder John Calabrese is hitting .265 in 35 games with 26 starts. Calabrese has 11 RBIs and nine of his 22 hits have been doubles. Calabrese has drawn 14 walks and struck out just 14 times.
- Ty Lagoni is batting .240 and is second on the team with 29 RBIs. He has four home runs and 37 hits. The shortstop has been named a Patriot League Player of the Week twice this season.
- Zach Selfon is hitting .239 with 34 hits and 14 RBIs. He has walked 16 times and was hit by seven pitches compared to just 21 strikeouts in 142 at-bats.
- The Bison have hit 30 home runs. Trommer, Chiaravallo and Mathias all homered in their first at-bats of the season. Garrison Bullock homered in his second at-bat of the year.
- Everett Garber has a 4.93 ERA in 45.2 innings over nine starts. Garber is 3-3 on the mound and has six outings of at least five innings or more. He has one complete game against Lafayette this season. He has allowed 25 earned runs on 47 hits and has 47 strikeouts compared to 25 walks.
- Freshman Brady Hoar has a 5.33 ERA in nine starts and is 5-3 on the season. Hoar has four starts of at least five innings where he allowed one run or less. He has pitched four quality starts this season, including a seven-inning performance against Holy Cross in the series finale. Hoar has been named a Patriot League Rookie of the Week twice and Pitcher of the Week once.
- Jonathan Adelmann has a 3.00 ERA in five starts for the Bison in his new role for the Bison. He's pitched 27.0 innings, going five innings or more in three starts. He's gone seven innings in each of the last two games, giving quality starts against both Saint Joseph's and Lafayette. He's struck out 25 batters compared to three walks the last two starts.
- Hadley Maxwell has a 1.40 ERA and is 9-for-9 in save opportunities this season for the Bison. Among the NCAA rankings, Maxwell's nine saves are tied for fourth. He's allowed three earned runs on 16 hits with 22 strikeouts in 19.1 innings.
- Jake Schultz has 3.15 ERA in seven appearances with five starts. He made his return to the mound in over a year against No. 15 North Carolina. He's allowed seven earned runs on 18 hits over 20.0 innings. He threw four scoreless innings with a career-high seven strikeouts in Bucknell's 5-4 win over Holy Cross.Â
- Liam Jones has a 3.75 ERA in nine relief appearances. He has not allowed an earned run in six of his nine appearances. He's allowed five earned runs on 17 hits in 12.0 innings with 13 strikeouts.
- Tyler Seidman has a 6.75 ERA in 12 appearances with two starts. Seidman made a spot start on Sunday against Army where he pitcher six one-hit innings as the Bison shut out Army 8-0.
- Senior Ryan Facinelli was named to the Preseason All-Patriot League Team and was a Second Team All-Patriot League selection in 2025.
- Bucknell posted an 18-27 overall record with a 10-15 mark in the Patriot League last season. The Bison finished fifth in the PL missed the playoffs after making the postseason the previous three seasons.
- Holy Cross won the 2025 Patriot League Championship, ending Army's six-year run as champions.
- Head coach Scott Heather is in his 14th season at the helm, and he is the third-longest tenured coach in program history. Heather's 262 career wins are second-most in team history, trailing only Hall-of-Famer Gene Depew (591).
