Softball Heads East to Easton for Weekend Series at Lafayette

LEWISBURG, Pa.-Â Bucknell Softball (5-26-1, 2-4 Patriot League) continues its road trek in conference play this weekend with a three-game series at Lafayette (8-26, 1-5 Patriot League). The Bison are coming off a sweep to Boston where the Orange & Blue were outscored 39-0. This weekend's series will serve as a de facto play-in for the tournament, as both teams look to remain in contention for one of the four bids. All three games will be streamed on ESPN+.Â

The Inside "Herd" on the Bison
- Bucknell lost 15-0 (5), 9-0 (5), and 15-0 (5) at Boston last weekend.Â
- The Orange & Blue, hampered by pitching injuries and silent bats, were outdueled by the league-leading Terriers.Â
- Despite the recent offensive struggles, Bucknell is hitting .274 as a team, with three players batting over .300.Â
- Rookie Barbara Jo Coppola has been the talk of Lewisburg, leading the team in average (.341) and OBP (.421).
- Junior Brooke Popella paces the Bison in doubles (13), hits (29), RBIs (29), and total bases (45) in junction with her .305 batting average. Â
- Fellow junior Sarah Zimmerman rounds out the .300 batters, hitting .338 and a team-high two home runs.
- The Leopards are 8-26 overall and 1-5 in Patriot League play. Lafayette has already surpassed its 2025 total of seven wins. The Leopards nearly defeated Boston in game one of their series before the Terriers routed them in the next two contests. They rebounded to beat Army 1-0 for their sole conference win. Reagan Powell's sister, Marisa, plays for the Leopards, as one of their consistent pitchers. Lafayette hits .227 and has an ERA of 7.75. Kylee Sweet headlines the team, batting .364 with three home runs.Â
- Bucknell owns a dominant 97-42-1 series lead and the Bison have won the last 10 out of 12 games. The rivalry dates back to 1979 - Bucknell's first year of competition. Lafayette won that game 17-12.Â
