Bucknell Blanks Lafayette 8-0 to Complete Three-Game Sweep

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell baseball team blanked Lafayette 8-0 to complete the three-game sweep on Sunday afternoon at Depew Field at Marren Park. Bucknell's last three-game sweep came over the Leopards back in 2024.
Freshman Brady Hoar went six innings with a career-high seven strikeouts in another quality start for the Bison. Jake Schultz pitched two scoreless innings in relief in his first appearance at Depew Field since 2024. Hadley Maxwell continued his excellent start to the season with another scoreless inning in the ninth to close out the ballgame.
Ty Lagoni continued his tear at the plate with a 2-for-3 day with an RBI and a walk. Lagoni was 7-for-12 (.583) in the series with five RBIs and two walks.
Michael Trommer was 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored in the ballgame. Lleyton Coupe and Andrew Swenson were both 2-for-3 at the plate. Swenson drove in two runs with two RBI singles.
The Bison got on the board in the third after three no-hit innings to start the game by Hoar. Lafayette got two quick outs, but an error put Billy Fluharty on first base. Trommer came up with a big two-out double in the next at-bat to score the game's first run.
The Leopards loaded the bases with one out in the fourth, but Hoar stranded all three runners with two strikeouts to end the inning.
Coupe roped a two-out double in the fourth, and moved to third on an error by the center fielder. Swenson notched his first RBI of the game with a single to double the Bison lead. A sacrifice fly by Lagoni gave the Bison a 3-0 lead after five innings.
Hoar stranded another runner in the fifth, and two more in the sixth to end his day. He finished his day with a line of no runs on three hits with five walks and seven strikeouts over six innings.
Lagoni led off the seventh with a walk, and moved to third on a stolen base and an error. Chiaravallo hit a sharp grounder to second in the next at bat, and beat the throw to first. Zach Selfon laid down a great squeeze bunt to bring in Lagoni to score. Swenson made it 5-0 with his second RBI single of the day.
Schultz stranded two runners in both the seventh and eighth innings to keep the Leopards off the board. The junior allowed four hits and struck out two batters in his second outing of the year.
The Bison went for three more runs in the eighth inning to extend the lead to 8-0. Trommer led off the inning with his second double of the day and Lagoni made it first and third with an infield single. Chiaravallo and Ryan Facinelli hit sacrifice flies in the inning, and Calabrese drove in another run with a two-out double.
Maxwell fanned the first batter he saw in the ninth, but the Leopards put on some pressure with two straight singles. The senior then struck out the next two batters to end the game.
Bucknell (7-10, 3-0 PL) had 12 hits in the ballgame and made no errors defensively. Lafayette (1-13, 0-3 PL) had nine hits in the game and drew five walks, but stranded all 14 runners in the game. The Bison stranded 13 baserunners in the game.
Swenson finished the series 4-for-8 with four RBIs and two walks. Swenson was hit by three pitches in the series. Calabrese was 4-for-9 in the series with three RBIs and two walks. All four of his hits in the series were doubles. Coupe was also 4-for-9 in the series with three walks. Three of his four hits were doubles.
Trommer was 6-for-15 in the series with an RBI. Garret Mathias was 4-for-10 with two RBIs and a walk. Fluharty was 4-for-13 in the series with two RBIs and six runs scored.
Bucknell is back in action on Tuesday for a midweek contest against Le Moyne at 3 p.m. at Depew Field at Marren Park. The Bison continue Patriot League action on the road at Navy next weekend.
