Bison and Midshipmen Split Doubleheader; Set to Play Rubber Match on Sunday

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell baseball team split a doubleheader against Navy on Saturday at Terwilliger Brothers Field at Max Bishop Stadium. The Bison rattled off its fourth consecutive win with a comeback victory in game one before Navy controlled game two for an 8-3 win.
Zach Selfon had three hits on the day, going 2-for-2 with two walks and two RBIs in game one. Garrett Mathias had a hit and a sacrifice fly in each game.
Billy Fluharty was 2-for-4 in game one with a run scored. Deacon Bowne had a hit in each game, knocking in an RBI in game one.
Mikey Myro pitched five solid innings in game one, allowing three runs on three hits. Tyler Seidman was lights out in relief with two perfect innings in game one to earn his first collegiate win.
Bucknell and Navy are set for a rubber match at 1 p.m. on Sunday for the series finale at Terwilliger Brothers field at Max Bishop stadium.
Game One: Bucknell 7, Navy 3 (7 Innings)
Bucknell (8-11, 4-1 PL) trailed Navy (15-7, 2-3 PL) 3-1 heading into the final inning, but the Bison exploded for six runs on seven hits to take a 7-3 lead. Zach Selfon tied the game with a two-run single, and Ryan Facinelli cleared the bases with a three-run double to put the Bison in front.
Tyler Seidman retired all six batters he faced with one strikeout to earn his first career win on the mound. Mikey Myro got the start on the mound and the senior tossed five innings where he allowed three runs on three hits. Myro tossed a scoreless fourth and fifth to keep Navy in reach, and Seidman kept the Mids off the basepaths in the sixth and seventh.
The Bison got on the scoreboard early in the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Garrett Mathias. Billy Fluharty singled and Michael Trommer walked to lead off the game. Ty Lagoni flew out to right field to move Fluharty to third to set up the sacrifice fly.
The Midshipmen quickly erased the lead as Ty DePerno hit a two-run home run to left field to make it a 2-1 game. Navy made it 3-1 in the third on a two-out single by Patrick Walsh.
Myro allowed just one hit over the fourth and fifth innings with two strikeouts to keep it a two-run game. Bucknell loaded the bases in the sixth but stranded all three runners.
Trommer singled, and an error put baserunners on second and third with one out. Mathias was intentionally walked to load the bases, and Selfon hit a single through the right side to tie the game 3-3. Michael Chiaravallo drew a walk to reload the bases, setting up a pinch-hit three-run double by Ryan Facinelli to make it 6-3. Deacon Bowne added a seventh run with a two-out single.
Game Two: Navy 8, Bucknell 3
Everett Garber pitched two scoreless innings before Navy tagged the right-hander in the third for four runs. The Mids loaded the bases without a hit, then scored four runs on three consecutive hits by Tyler Cripe, Victor Izquierdo and Ty DePerno.
The Mids made it 5-0 in the fifth before the Bison got back into the ballgame with a three-run sixth inning. Bowne hit a one out double, and Fluharty and Trommer walked to load the bases. Lagoni was hit with a pitch to get the Bison on the board, and Mathias hit his second sacrifice fly of the day in the next at bat. The Bison pulled off a double steal as Lagoni took second base to allow Trommer to come home to score to make it a 5-3 game. The Bison stranded two runners in the inning.
Navy erased Bucknell's three-run inning with a three-run bottom half to extend the lead to 8-3. Walsh doubled to bring in an insurance run, and a two-out, two-run double by Mason Ceccarelli restored the five-run lead.
The Bison had just one baserunner in the final three innings as Lagoni reached base on an error. Navy's Tyler Grenn earned the save, tossing three no-hit innings in relief to keep the Bison off the board.
