Softball Falls to No. 18 Virginia

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.- Bucknell (1-13) completed the Party at Palmer Invitational on Sunday with a 7-0 defeat to host No. 18 Virginia (18-1).
Avery Powers received the start and Virginia immediately launched offensive operations. Kassidy Hudson singled and stole second. Macee Eaton doubled down the line, scoring Hudson. Bella Cabral singled through the left side. Kelsey Hackett hit an infield single, tallying Eaton.
Virginia added two more runs in the third inning. Eaton singled and Cabral homered over the right field wall.
The Cavaliers cashed in three insurance runs in the sixth inning. Alex Call led off with a walk and Kamyria Woody-Giggetts pinch ran and stole second. Hannah Weismer singled through the right side for runners on the corners. Jaiden Griffith hit an RBI grounder. Jade Hylton walked. Powers struck out Addison Reasor for a brief reprieve before Eaton singled home Weismar. A wild pitch scored Hylton. Powers struck out Reagan Hickey to prevent a run-rule situation.
Bucknell could not summon a historic rally and the Bison fell 7-0.
The Orange & Blue start the annual spring break trip next weekend at the Winthrop Invitational.Â
