GOODYEAR, Ariz. – Jack Hartman fired a 3-under-par 69 to help the Bucknell men's golf team shave five strokes off its first-round score with a 290 tally on Monday in the second round of the Loyola Invitational at Palm Valley Golf Club. Despite the solid day, the Bison dropped two spots to 18th place with the third and final round set for Tuesday morning.
Hartman continued his assault on Palm Valley's opening nine. He posted 33 on the front side in Sunday's opening round, and he followed that up with a 4-under 32 on Monday. Hartman started the day on the 14th hole and was 1-over coming back around to the front, and he proceeded to make birdies at 2, 3, 5, 6, and 9. He added another birdie at 10 for good measure to get to 4-under before a bogey on his final hole of the day left him at -3. Hartman is now 1-under for the tournament and tied for 30th place.
Patrick Pritsios made five birdies and five bogeys and followed Hartman with an even-par 72. James Robbins, who shot 1-under in the first round, carded a 1-over 73 in round two, highlighted by an eagle at the par-5 14th hole. Hayden Quinn was the fourth counter with a 76.
Richmond and Loyola both fired 12-under 276s and remain tied for the team lead at 20-under through 36 holes. Denver is third at -18, followed by North Carolina State and Tennessee Martin in a tie for fourth at -15. Eleven of the 20 teams in the field are under par.
Richmond's Carson Baez had the round of the day, a bogey-free, 7-under 65, and he pulled even with Grand Canyon's Campbell Kerr for the individual lead at 11-under. Denver's Jet Hernandez is two back at -9.
The final round gets underway with an 11:45 a.m. Eastern (9:45 a.m. local) shotgun start on Tuesday.
