RESULTS
GOODYEAR, Ariz. – Led by a 1-under-par 71 from James Robbins, the Bucknell men's golf team made its spring debut with a 295 team tally on Sunday in the opening round of the Loyola Invitational at Palm Valley Golf Club. The Bison are in 16th place in a strong 20-team field with two more rounds to come.
Robbins started his round on the 10th hole and quickly got into red numbers with three birdies in a four-hole span at holes 12, 14, and 15. He finished the day with four birdies and three bogeys and sits in a tie for 24th place.
Patrick Pritsios followed with a 73, Jack Hartman shot 74, and Hayden Quinn and Henry Bolster both carded 77s. Pritsios started with a double-bogey at 9 but quickly got those back with two straight birdies at 10 and 11. He then played the final 15 holes in 1-over. Hartman shot a 3-under 33 on the course's front nine after struggling a bit on the back. Quinn and Bolster both eagled the par-5 second hole to highlight their rounds. Bucknell's quintet played that hole in 6-under.
Scores are typically low at this event, and Richmond and Loyola grabbed the early lead with 8-under 280s. South Dakota and Denver are both one shot back, followed by North Carolina State (-6), UT Martin (-4), Seton Hall (-2), and South Dakota State (-1).
The round of the day was a 7-under 65 from Utah Valley's Paxton Maxwell. Grand Canyon's Campbell Kerr is one shot back, followed by Denver's Jet Hernandez and N.C. State's Rylan Shim at -5. A total of 52 players shot even par or better on Sunday.
Round two gets going with an 11:45 a.m. Eastern (9:45 a.m. local) shotgun start on Monday morning.
