RESULTS
APALACHIN, N.Y. – Paced by under-par rounds from freshmen Charlie Barrickman and Brad McDermott, the Bucknell men's golf team is in second place in a 13-team field at the midway point of the Matthews Auto Collegiate Invitational, hosted by Binghamton at the Links at Hiawatha Landing. Barrickman carded a 4-under par 68 and McDermott followed with a 2-under 70, and both enter Monday's final round in the top six individually.
La Salle fired a 7-under 281, led by a field-low 67 from Gavin Dosch, and the Explorers own a seven-shot lead over the Bison. Third-place Le Moyne is six strokes behind Bucknell at 294, followed by St. Bonaventure at 295 and Laval at 296.
Barrickman made six birdies, three on each side, including a closing birdie at No. 18 to finish with a season-best 68. Barrickman, who won in his collegiate debut at Colgate earlier this fall, broke par for the fourth time in seven rounds to start his career.
McDermott, whose best round thus far was a 74 at Colgate, got hot late in his round. After posting 37 on the front side, he bounced back from a bogey at No. 11 with three straight birdies. He added another at the 210-yard par-3 17th to shoot 33 on the back and 70 on the day.
Taylor Kuehn followed with a strong 1-over 73, and the Bison also counted a 77 from Jaxon Brown, who was 2-over on the day before finding trouble at the last.
Indie Henry Bolster also had a good day playing as an individual. Bolster made four birdies on the way to a season-best 73.
Nine players in the field posted red numbers on Sunday. La Salle has three of them and Bucknell and Laval two each. Barrickman starts his final round in a three-way tie for second with La Salle's Logan Paczewski and Laval's William Boudreult, one shot behind the leader Dosch. McDermott is tied for sixth place, three shots off the lead.
Bucknell's tee times begin at 10:30 a.m. in Monday's final round.
