About the Bison
- The Bison men's golf squad heads back north this weekend for Binghamton's Matthews Auto Collegiate Invitational at the Links at Hiawatha Landing. This will be Bucknell's third tournament of the fall season, and the squad is looking to return to its week-one form at Colgate after struggling last time out at Navy.
- Led by an individual win from freshman Charlie Barrickman, Bucknell finished fifth in a strong 13-team field at Colgate's Alex Lagowitz Memorial. Barrickman shot 69-71-69 to finish 7-under for the tournament, good for a two-shot win. Jack Hartman finished at -1 (71-72-72) and tied for 14th place.
- Two weeks ago at The Goat, hosted by Navy, the Bison had a tough go and finished in 14th place. Taylor Kuehn was the low Bison with rounds of 76-73-73 on the par-71 Naval Academy GC.
- Kuehn, Barrickman, Jaxon Brown, Brad McDermott, and Hartman will comprise the team's five-man lineup this week. Henry Bolster and Conner Freedman will also play as individuals.
- Barrickman is just the second Bucknell freshman ever to win a tournament, and the first to do it in his collegiate debut. His first-round, 3-under 69 at Colgate was the lowest in relation to par by a Bison freshman in his first career round. He started the final round two shots off the lead, and then battled a pair of Seton Hall players all day for the top spot. Barrickman, who qualified for the U.S. Amateur Championship earlier this summer, began on the sixth hole and jumped out to a par-birdie-birdie start. He bogeyed the ninth, but that was his only blemish of the day. He ended a string of eight straight pars with a birdie at the par-5 18th to grab a one-shot lead over Will Hennessee. Still sitting on that slim lead heading into his final hole, Barrickman closed with a birdie while Hennessee parred his final hole, giving the Bison rookie a two-shot win. He earned Patriot League Golfer of the Week and Bison of the Week honors for his efforts.
- Through six rounds, Barrickman leads the team with a 72.0 scoring average. Kuehn is next at 74.2, followed by Hartman at 75.5 and Brown at 76.3.
- Bucknell is playing in the Matthews Auto Collegiate Invitational for the first time since the fall of 2016. The Bison finished with an even-par 576 total in the 36-hole event, but that was only good for ninth place in a 16-team field. Then-freshman Peter Bradbeer shot 68-71 in a T-6th finish.
- Bucknell's best finishes in this event were fourth-place efforts in 2012 and 2014. Peter Scialabba's 5-under 67 in 2014 is the team's best round at the Links at Hiawatha.
- The Bison host their annual fall invitational Oct. 11-13 at the Bucknell Golf Club. The Bucknell Invitational is a three-day, 54-hole event.
