DRAWS/RESULTS
WEST POINT, N.Y. – All three Bucknell entries won their opening matches on Friday at the Patriot League qualifier for the ITA Conference Masters Championships, hosted by Army West Point. Senior Liam Kilmer and freshman Enoch Lin both moved on in singles, and the all-freshman doubles duo of Lin and Brady Friesen won a tight match to advance to the semifinals.
Kilmer and Lin both advanced to the singles quarterfinals with straight-set wins on Friday, and they will both play Boston University Terriers on Saturday. Kilmer, the No. 4 seed, got out to a fast start and held off Matthew Carlson of Holy Cross 6-0, 7-6 (7-5). Kilmer will play David Dai on Saturday morning. Dai won a tight 7-5, 7-6 (7-4) verdict from Colgate's Lochlan Seth in his opening match.
Lin beat Colgate freshman Jack Babka 6-2, 6-4, and will next play Payton Jim On on Saturday. Jim On was a 6-1, 7-6 (7-4) winner over Ezequiel de la Plaza.
In doubles, Lin and Friesen outlasted Lafayette's Derrin Lerner and John Owen Studdiford 9-7. Bucknell's second-seeded pair will next face Navy's Lachlan Buckingham and Ethan Garcia in the semifinals. Army and Lehigh will square off in the other doubles semi on Saturday afternoon.
This weekend's singles and doubles champions earn bids to the national event in Rome, Ga., on Nov. 5-8, where four singles players and two doubles teams will automatically qualify for the NCAA Championships. Each NCAA AQ-eligible Division I conference designates one singles player and one doubles team to compete at the ITA Conference Masters, and the Patriot League representatives are selected via this week's tournament.
