Volleyball Unhorses the Black Knights in Four Sets

LEWISBURG, Pa.- Bucknell (6-8, 2-3 Patriot League) defeated Army (9-5, 3-2 Patriot League) in four sets (25-17, 25-16, 22-25, 25-21) on Friday night at Davis Gym. The Bison opened home play with its best volleyball of the season.Â
Bucknell outhit Army .276 to .170. The Orange & Blue also had the edge in digs, 50-48.Â
Marion Haskell led the Bison with 14 kills on a sparkling .407 hitting percentage. Cameron Lloyd added 12 kills. Peyton McGee delivered 36 assists.
Interestingly, the first three sets featured zero lead changes before a wild final stanza witnessed five lead changes and nine ties.Â
Bucknell grabbed the early lead in the opening set and avoided any Army comeback by consisting collecting points. The Black Knights cut the deficit to 16-15 before a 5-1 Bison run created unbreakable breathing space. After a Bison service error, a 4-0 Bucknell run won the set.Â
Army tied the contest twice in the second set before Bucknell seized control with a 12-6 run. The Black Knights kept pushing but couldn't penetrate Bucknell's rock-solid defense. A Sidney Shaffer kill finished off the set.Â
The third set was mostly all Army. The Black Knights galloped to a 7-2 lead and maintained the momentum for most of the set. Bucknell rallied to make the situation interesting, cutting the deficit to 24-22 before a Kaitlyn Taylor service error gave Army the set win.Â
Bucknell led 13-7 in the fourth set and seemed prepared for the easy win. Army had different plans and reeled off a stretch of points for the 18-16 lead. Bucknell rallied for a 3-0 run. Army tied the set but the Bison used another 3-0 run for a 22-19 and rolled to the match win.Â
The Bison remain at home tomorrow to face Colgate at 4 p.m.
