LEWISBURG, Pa.- Bucknell (7-8, 3-3 Patriot League) improved to .500 in conference play by outlasting Colgate (7-8, 2-4 Patriot League) in five sets (20-25, 25-17, 22-25, 25-23, 15-11) on Saturday afternoon. The Bison trailed two sets to one before rallying for the dramatic win. It marked Bucknell's first winning streak against the Patriot League colossus in 20 years.Â
Bucknell delivered a punishing offensive performance, tallying 75 kills to Colgate's 59. The Bison were proficient with a .371 hitting percentage. The Orange & Blue had three sets where it hit over .440.Â
Sidney Shaffer received the game's laurels for her 19 kills and sizzling .562 hitting percentage. She loomed large in the middle with five solo blocks, including a stretch of three consecutive in the second set.Â
Freshman Marion Haskell was the ideal wingwoman, posting 18 kills on a .378 hitting percentage. Cameron Lloyd added 14 kills to put three Bison in double-digits.Â
Setter Peyton McGee supplied a career performance, serving up 55 assists and adding eight kills on a .636 hitting percentage.Â
Colgate was missing former Patriot League Player of the Year Milan Bayless and the stats reflected it as the Raiders only hit .268.
Bucknell tied the score three times in the first set before Colgate reeled off a 6-0 run for the 10-4 lead and decisive separation. Colgate continued to maintain firm control until the Bison inched within 19-17. A 6-3 Raider run ended the set for the visitors.Â
The Bison dominated the second set, holding Colgate to a paltry .074 hitting percentage. Bucknell stormed out to a 13-4 lead and led 20-9. The Raiders saved some face with late points but their fate was sealed in a 25-17 defeat.Â
The third set featured five tied scores but only one lead change. Colgate made its move with the score tied at 11-11. A 5-0 run provided a buffer that no Bucknell rally could reduce. The Orange & Blue inched within one point three times but Colgate held on for the set win.Â
The fourth stanza was the game's wildest one. Six times the score was tied and four times the lead was exchanged. The stock market-like beginning settled into a comfortable Colgate lead and the Raiders seemed ready for the four-set win. Bucknell, trailing 20-14, rallied to tie the set at 22-22. Colgate scored the next point but the Bison unleashed a 3-0 run for the set victory.Â
The momentum spilled into the fifth and final set. Bucknell bolted to a 9-3 lead. Colgate fought back and tied the set at 10-10. A 5-1 Bucknell run, ended by a Haskell kill, delivered the win to the Bison coffers.Â
