Men’s Tennis Blanks Mount St. Mary’s in 2026 Home Opener

RESULTS
SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Bucknell men's tennis team rolled to a 7-0 sweep over Mount St. Mary's on Saturday afternoon in the first home match of the season at the Central PA Tennis Center. The Bison bounced back from a loss to No. 10 Columbia and are now 1-1 on the season.
The match started with competitive doubles play. The Bison took the point with wins at first and third doubles, with the No. 3 tandem of Oscar Bain Moreno de Vega and Will Robinson clinching it with an 8-6 tiebreaker verdict. Amar Tahirovic and Brendan McDonald won 6-4 at No. 1 doubles, but Mount St. Mary's Stefanos Pournaropoulos and Nikolaos Fotios Makris won 6-3 at No. 2.
Bucknell dropped only one set in the six singles matches. Robinson was extended to a third set super tiebreaker at No. 4, where he downed Ryan Wagner 10-5.
Tahirovic was a 6-2, 6-2 winner over Akarsh Gaonkar at No. 1 singles. With regular No. 2 Adam Stavrakas out for this match, everyone else slid up and performed well. Liam Kilmer won 7-6, 7-6 at No. 2; Brendan McDonald cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 3; Shiv Singh prevailed 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5, and Bain won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 6 in his return from injury.
McDonald's doubles win was the 83rd of his career, and he is now four shy of Ryan Sandburg's team record.
Sunday's match against Saint Francis has been postponed until March 22 due to the pending winter storm headed for the region. Bucknell will play twice next weekend, visiting Binghamton on Friday evening before returning home to host Delaware on Sunday at 1 p.m.
