LEWISBURG, Pa.- Bucknell (4-5) earned its first win over a Big Ten team since 2016 with a decisive 4-0 rout of Michigan State (3-6) on Sunday afternoon. Four different Bison tallied goals, as the Orange & Blue looked and performed like the superior squad from the opening touch. Bucknell recorded 20 shots to MSU's 11 and kept the Spartans pressured all game with slicing cuts and superior stickwork.Â
The Bison's last Big Ten victim was Rutgers in 2016, when the Scarlet Knights fell 2-0 at Graham Field. Bucknell recorded another shutout win with Sarah Althouse supplying four saves and Kira Leclercq recording her second defensive save of the 2025 season.Â
Freshman Gracie Kothari started the scoring 12 minutes into action. Gianna Puorro, healthy again after her injury versus Saint Francis, moved up the right flank and sent a pass into the multitude in the middle. Kothari sent her stick into action and fired the shot home for the 1-0 lead.
Bucknell's second goal arrived two minutes after halftime. The Bison earned a penalty corner opportunity. Bella Notaro inserted the ball to Leclercq. The senior defender fired a missile and the goalkeeper managed to knock it down. Notaro alertly shot the deflection into the cage for her first collegiate tally.Â
Fisahn scored her third goal of the season and Bucknell's third of the game seven minutes later with her patented chip shot. The Orange & Blue drew another penalty corner and again Leclercq received the shot opportunity. She fired and Fisahn, smartly stationed at the right side of the cage, deftly redirected the shot into the goal.Â
Reese Czajkowski finished off the scoring early in the fourth quarter with a full-pitch effort. She raced down the field with the ball and attempted to pass into the circle. Her effort was blocked and rebounded to the sophomore, who decided to finish the affair herself. She raced around two Spartans and pounded the ball for Bucknell's fourth goal and her fifth of the season, tying Leclercq's for the team lead.Â
Â
Bucknell's defense prevented any late garbage time goals to cement Althouse's three clean sheet of 2025.Â
The Bison remain at home next Saturday to face Holy Cross in Patriot League action.Â
