HAMILTON, N.Y.- Bucknell Volleyball (6-7, 3-1 Patriot League) fell in a sweep (19-25, 21-25, 14-25) to the reigning Patriot League champion Colgate Raiders (8-5, 4-0 Patriot League) in Saturday afternoon action. The result left Colgate as the sole remaining unblemished team in the circuit. The Bison displayed flashes but the four-time champions were too strong at home, moving to 29-4 in Hamilton since 2023.Â
Sidney Shaffer recorded another glowing game leading the Bison with 11 kills and a strong .474 hitting percentage. Tijana Kostic's double-double stretch was broken, as the senior finished with nine kills and six digs. Caleigh O'Connell supplied 32 assists to average over ten per set.Â
Colgate posted 41 kills to Bucknell's 33. For the second straight game, the Bison recorded the same number of digs (60) as the opposition. The Raiders' serving game was on point with ten aces.Â
The first set started 7-1 Colgate and the Bison never overcame the early deficit. Bucknell closed within to four points multiple times but the Raiders always had an answer. The Bison cut the score to 21-18 on a bad set call. Colgate replied with a 4-1 run to close the set.Â
The second set nearly repeated the opening salvo. Colgate blitzed to a 7-2 lead but Bucknell counterattacked and led 10-9. The teams traded the lead before the Raiders slid ahead 22-19. Bucknell scored two quick points but Colgate ended the set on a 3-0 run, punctuated by a service ace on Cameron Lloyd.Â
Colgate continued its stretch of strong starts with an 8-1 lead in the third stanza. The Raiders coasted to the set win, as Bucknell never could generate a large run. With the score at 19-13, Colgate ended the affair with a 6-1 run with an ace on Kostic and two kills by Jordan Moore closing out the game.Â
Bucknell returns to Davis Gym next weekend to welcome American (Oct. 3) and Loyola (Md.) (Oct. 4).Â
