Volleyball Swept by American

LEWISBURG, Pa.- Bucknell Volleyball (6-8, 3-2 Patriot League) was swept for the second straight match, as the American Eagles (11-4, 4-1 Patriot League) won the battle of 3-1 conference foes on Friday night. The Bison fell 17-25, 16-25, and 12-25.. American won the first stanza and never looked back.Â
American's defense was paramount holding Bucknell to a .019 hitting percentage while smashing .240 themselves. The Eagles also held the Orange & Blue without a service ace while collecting six.Â
Kaitlyn Taylor led the Bison with six kills and Riley Tucker added four with a team-high .500 hitting percentage. Tijana Kostic supplied 12 digs.Â
American had two players with double-digit kills in Salme Adeele Hollas (12) and Sophie Dufour (10). Deniz Dakak provided 35 assists.Â
The score sat at 4-4 in the first set before the Eagles flew away from the Bison with a 10-5 run. Bucknell cut the deficit to 15-12 but American answered with another stretch to take a decisive lead and win 25-17.Â
The second set mostly followed the opening salvo's script except the score was 5-5 when American broke away. A 4-0 run stretched into a 10-3 segment. Bucknell inched within 19-14 before a 6-2 American run ended the set.Â
Bucknell, using a challenge, won the first point of set three but everything else belonged to American. The Eagles used a 7-0 run when the score was 8-5 to seal the win and the team coasted to the 25-12 set victory. Both teams substituted and several Bison freshmen flashed as bright spots.Â
The Bison remain at Davis Gym tomorrow to face Loyola (Md.) at 4 p.m.
