LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Bucknell senior Amar Tahirovic begins his run in the main draw of the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla., on Wednesday. Tahirovic is currently No. 43 in the ITA national singles rankings, and as the highest-ranked player from the Patriot League, he earned a bye into the main draw. Qualifying rounds wrap up later in the day on Tuesday, and then Tahirovic will be slotted into the 64-player main draw.
UPDATE: Tahirovic will play TCU's Duncan Chan in the Round of 64 on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. ET (12:30 local). Chan, who made it to the main draw with two wins in the qualifying round, is No. 106 in the ITA preseason rankings, and he is coming off singles and doubles championships at the Battle in The Bay in San Francisco. Chan was a regular in the lineup for a Horned Frogs team that lost 4-2 to Wake Forest in last year's NCAA Tournament final.
This tournament features the top collegiate players from across the country, and 10 NCAA Singles Championship slots are up for grabs. The eight quarterfinalists automatically earn berths, and there will also be two feed-in qualifiers through the consolation bracket.
Bucknell claimed the only two Patriot League players in the field. Adam Stavrakas earned an invitation to the pre-qualifying round over the weekend. He dropped his opening match 6-0, 6-2 to Florida's Kevin Edengren, and then he fell 6-4, 6-3 to Wake Forest's Joaquim Guilleme in the consolation bracket. Stavrakas, a First Team All-Patriot League selection and the 2025 Patriot League Tournament MVP, saw his 24-match singles winning streak come to an end.
Tahirovic is the reigning Patriot League Player of the Year and Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Last fall he came one win shy of an NCAA singles bid after a run to the quarterfinals of the ITA Conference Masters, but he did get to appear on the NCAA stage after leading the Bison to the Patriot League team title in the spring.
The main draw will be streamed live on Track Tennis and Cracked Racquets, and draws and live results can be accessed through the ITA website.
